This is the most Mastodon-thing I’ve ever seen (h/t @rmondello who said it first). Literally every single Firefox user took this poll and no one else. https://mstdn.link/?to=https://mastodon.social/@isagalaev/111027776713051174

Happy 25th anniversary to my baby the . I’m a huge iMac fan (I need a good replacement for my 2020 Intel but it’s still a beast and it’ll last a long time). Here’s the original introduction https://youtu.be/BiWd8ujtK5k

This story is just wild from beginning to end. ESPN didn’t like Emmy rules so it made up names of producers so it could get trophies for the on-air talent ineligible for winning awards. Wild! https://theathletic.com/5193316/2024/01/11/espn-emmys-fake-names-college-gameday/

How the hell do you lose a lawsuit that your biggest competitor (who is arguably a much bigger monopolist than you) won so decisively? https://www.theverge.com/23994174/epic-google-trial-jury-verdict-monopoly-google-play

NuTwitter is very broken and has lots of bugs but the normies have finally arrived. It’s going to devolve into 10,000 kinds of drama within hours and I’m so excited.

This filler green ad prob cost $2 million or something. So dumb.

There is something terribly ironic about Bluesky crashing due to the influx of users now that Elon has said he's going to remove Block from Twitter/X (which is too stupid to even comment on), when people literally had pitchforks up at Bluesky for not having blocks as a launch feature in private beta (it was added) and there being ongoing drama about the public nature of who you block/are blocked by (b/c the API has to expose it). I love online so much.

Masties help me out: is there a way in Ivory or any other app for me to search my own past toots? I opted into the search thing.

Welp, I’m paying $36 a year for the ad-free Amazon Prime Video, I guess.

Terrible things happening in media today but b/c media people aren’t here (there are exceptions but you all know I’m right. Let’s not even talk about the farce that is journa.host — sorry to my friends on that instance), I doubt it’ll impact my TL on Mastodon much.

Cultural things like this really do make it clear how much this place, as much as I’m enjoying it, is not my home the way the hellsite was.

Ok, but what if I like leather? I don’t want fake leather.

I appreciate and respect how many people in the EU have told us Americans how we don’t understand how EU policy works wrt the DMA. And you’re right! When we opine on it, it is rarely with a cultural understanding of how things work there. But similarly, I really would like EU people to understand the US DoJ doesn’t work like the EU. And the cases might have some similarities but are fundamentally completely different in scope, procedure and enforcement.

For more than a month, I’ve been trying to will this into existence for more than a month. And now all the British tabloids are gifting us with this gossip. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12044001/amp/Taylor-Swift-madly-love-1975-frontman-Matty-Healy-weeks-split-Joe-Alwyn.html

While I’m mentioning it (see previous post), just another shoutout for @feedbin. I’ve been using it as my RSS sync service since 2013, as both s replacement for Google Reader and Fever (RIP to my self-hosted love of loves). There are other sync services out there that I’m sure are terrific but https://feedbin.com has served me well for a very long time!

Honestly, support ublock origin and you can win back the Mac browser market. But the current extension model in Safari is such a terrible experience for every person involved, developers and users. https://techhub.social/@Techmeme/112360846501810807

I just made a Linux joke without even trying while talking about something entirely different and I have so many questions about my life choices. (The context was that I was informed that the same man is responsible for both unleaded gasoline and cfc based refrigerants, thereby dooming the earth twice, to which I replied, “oh, like how the same guy gave us PulseAudio and systemd?”)

Bottoms is lowkey one of mh favorite movies of 2023. Super glad I can watch it on a plane even if the aspect ratio is totally weird because this A330 is old.

Like @drdrang, I go through considering this at least every 18 - 24 months. Fortunately, I’m too ADHD and too emacs averse to actually follow-through. But the temptation never leaves. https://mastodon.social/@hotdogsladies/111738442011341619

Just had the realization that I’m the go-to person for so many people I know for tech support (esp. if it is Apple-related) and that I am thus forced to essentially be my own tech support b/c I don’t have a film_girl to ask.
