I still can't get over the fact that @jorge has started a Fedora-based distribution called, of all names, Bluefin. (Still debating whether to let others in on the joke of why that name is hilarious, since it doesn't seem to be common knowledge.)

The Apple A10 was the first A-series chip name to have a suffix, A10 Fusion. It was their first big.LITTLE implementation, so it sort of made sense.

The A11 Bionic was seemingly named because "A10 had a cool suffix, and Bionic is a cool word."

And then for the next 5 generations, they forgot to ask anyone if they should change the cool suffix, so they kept using the same up to A16 Bionic.

The latest is the A17 Pro, because everything they do is Pro. Everything.

Okta Verify just scared my cat, who was sleeping on my phone.

There's probably a company infosec policy which forbids cats from accepting the "Yes, it's me" prompt.

Saw this on the road today, a dazzle wrap they use to hide car details while testing on the road. Had a “dealer” Michigan plate, no manufacturer logos. Seen in Victorville, CA.

Doesn’t seem to match any current minivan style, especially not from an American manufacturer, though the Michigan plate may be a red herring. Also, I’m not a minivan expert. Friend guessed it might be a Nissan Quest?

Edit: It's a 2025 Kia Carnival.

Nobody makes butter dishes which are specific to west coast sticks. They're all either designed without even realizing west coast sticks exists, or they're slightly larger than east coast sticks and you can kind of cram west coast sticks into it with a lot of wasted space on the ends.

Dear lazyfedi, I'm having a hard time searching for this (because, you know, search these days...), so I'd appreciate if someone has a source for this.

I seem to remember there are two digital display mode specs -- I want to think they're VESA and DVI -- and that, for example, older 360x200 console resolutions would be one, while newer stuff uses the other(but it's not tied to resolution). HDMI/DP support both at the protocol level, but a display would support one or both.

If you're making a video and you say "without further ado", you probably already have too much ado, and you should have reduced the amount of ado in your video to begin with.

What was the first keyboard with an inverted T arrow key layout? The Model M would be the safe guess, but I'm willing to bet there is probably an obscure predecessor.

When I bought my house 2 years ago, it came with a gas grill which was probably quite expensive when it was new. But today, almost every aspect of it is broken, EXCEPT for being a grill.

Electric ignition? Broken.
Lights? Broken on multiple levels.
Warming rack? Broken.
Rotisserie? No idea, never used it, probably broken.

But it still functions as a gas grill.

Me driving past the Tesla dealership this weekend: "Huh, why are there about 20 Cybertrucks in front? I mean, there have got to be enough fools to continue to buy them; there can't be a surplus. It's no Apple Vision Pro..."

Then I remembered they were all recalled last week, and those are probably waiting for repairs. I literally laughed to myself for a solid minute after realizing that.

The ultimate in opulence: spending $30 on a keycap set because I thought it looked nice (before / after).

And it does look nice! Though my finger joints were not thrilled with the process.

Same keyboard and desk as previous image, but with different keys (dark teal for most keys, black for the rest, completely different font, more rounded keys)

My Midwesterner heritage is currently mad that the store brand 75 oz box of dishwasher detergent powder is out of stock and I need to pay 15% more to buy the name brand which is the exact same... before remembering I used to buy dishwasher detergent pods, which are up to 10x the cost of boxed detergent and do the exact same thing.

I should go re-watch @TechConnectify 's rant to help me relax.

August 22, 2007: Valve releases the "Meet the Soldier" video.

April 25, 2024: Me, sitting quietly at my desk, doing some work: "... Oh! 'It's called a zoo'... A 'zoo'! Now I get it!"

Funny joke.

Stargate SG-1 Machete order:

  • Seasons 4, 5, 6, 7
  • Movie
  • Seasons 1, 2, 3
  • Season 8

A partner and I actually did this once, and it worked out well. I was playing a random S4 episode and she was interested, but it wouldn't have been a good idea to immediately go back to the movie or S1. And S7 to S8 is a good cliffhanger to take a detour back to the beginning.

(I think I lied and told her it ended with S8. Probably for the best.)

Fun fact: Turns out I've gone to 7-Eleven more times this year than the number of Cybertrucks sold so far.
