New blog post! The printer formerly known as Ender

On that fateful day in 1986, I thought I had done it. I had escaped. Over the years, I thought I could avoid him forever.

Then one day, when I thought I had put my previous life behind me for good, he showed up on my doorstep. "It's time to pay up," he said in his dark, raspy voice. He was holding a baseball bat.

So that’s a thing

For the record, I live in SoCal (was taken at 34.6N) and had to drive about an hour north to get enough dark sky for it to be visible to the naked eye. It was a fun experience, but the camera's long exposure really oversold it.

Gonna risk installing the Flight Simulator beta on my Xbox for that sweet sweet Garmin G3X Touch reimplementation

foo,
@foo@fosstodon.org avatar

@brooke I remember trying MSFS on the Xbox a few years ago, and it was totally broken because it went "Oh hey, you have a customized Xbox controller profile set up on your PC install, I'll move that over here!"

The Xbox controller in question was customized exclusively for camera controls secondary to my flight stick, and when it was used on the Xbox it made it impossible to even navigate the UI to fix it.

Dear lazyfedi, I'm having a hard time searching for this (because, you know, search these days...), so I'd appreciate if someone has a source for this.

I seem to remember there are two digital display mode specs -- I want to think they're VESA and DVI -- and that, for example, older 360x200 console resolutions would be one, while newer stuff uses the other(but it's not tied to resolution). HDMI/DP support both at the protocol level, but a display would support one or both.

foo,
@foo@fosstodon.org avatar

The reason I was thinking about this is I have an old 42" Insignia TV in my office, with a long HDMI cord attached to it. It's cheap and utterly unremarkable, except that it handles any old resolution you throw at it, making it a good corner-mounted bench monitor.

I was thinking it would be hard to replace these days, not because that functionality is uncommon (it may or may not be), but it would be hit or miss to find one when manufacturers don't advertise "GUARANTEED 360x200 COMPATIBILITY!"

My one superhero weakness is when someone says "substitute X for Y", I never know which one in the phrase is the old one coming out or the new one going in.

@whitequark I am the GitHub Enterprise platform manager for a large company (as in I manage our GHE platforms; I don't work for GitHub), which includes our Actions runner infrastructure for thousands of users.

That is a tame representation of what I see my users doing. Meanwhile, this is a typical workflow of mine. The cobbler's children are barefoot.

Me: I need to drop off the car on Monday, and it'll be in the shop for a few days.

Also me: I don't live within walking distance of any services! How will I survive? To prepare for two days without a car, I need to buy six months worth of pantry supplies, and also a few bear traps.

BART legacy rolling stock number plates are back in stock!
And I am not ashamed to admit that I am posting this AFTER confirming that my order went through, since they sold out almost immediately with the last batch.

I liked the part where Apple announced they will finally be including microSD ports on all mobile devices going forward, so you don't have to pay an inflated surcharge for storage at build time. Little late, but it was a nice gesture.

To the multiple people who saw my joke about 5/4 on Saturday and replied with a variation of asking why it was posted Saturday, and not April 5:

Yes, very good, you are very clever and insightful.

If I owned a liquor store, I'd have 750ml bottles of tequila on sale during the entire month of May. I'd call it el Mayo de Cincos.

If you're making a video and you say "without further ado", you probably already have too much ado, and you should have reduced the amount of ado in your video to begin with.

@chipchirp Obviously. If you were actually a YouTuber, you'd say it after a 3 minute contentless introduction and 4 minute ad read for Hello Fresh.

That contact high from contribution can last far into the future. While I haven't contributed a lot to @octoprint , I've done a few things, including writing the functionality to make time-based marker events extensible.

Every time I see a completed print (where that "Cooldown" event is inserted by a plugin), I smile and think "I did that!"

@eniko You have an international chain of stores which is famously 100% private label. You literally control the label and could use ISO 8601. THIS SIGN SHOULD NOT EXIST.
