This is probably a terrible idea, but you can now print to the thermal receipt printer in my office by mentioning @lpd in your posts.

I'm sure it'll be fine.

Part of the reason I got a camping trailer was so I could maintain an organized permanent kit of base camping supplies, so I don't have to gather as much when I go out (and, well, not risk forgetting as much).

Here's the current kit. It does seem like a lot once fully enumerated, but while it's nowhere near the level of glamping, I'm not exactly a backpack camper.

I bought my custom camping utility trailer back in July. Since then, I've put a lot of work (and a not insignificant amount of money) into fixing and updating some things, and have had a blast along the way. I've described it as an end boss rush where I'm applying all the mechanical / electrical tools and skills I've acquired over the years. Here are a few of the things I've done to it since buying it. 🧵

I rarely drink these days, but last week grabbed a six-pack from Target for a camping trip, and oh boy, the landscape is grim. I was hoping for a nice craft-like witbier in cans (the Burner in me was raised on "avoid packing glass while camping").

The only wheat beer was bottles of Blue Moon. EVERYTHING. ELSE. WAS. IPA.

Dozens of IPAs, going on forever. I'm not a fan of IPAs.

in :

a = a[0] = [[]]

This results in "a" being a list with one item, itself. Thankfully the repr recognizes this as being an infinite recursion:

>>> a
[[...]]
>>> a[0]
[[...]]

So a[0] is in a, obviously?

>>> a[0] in a
True

But what about...

>>> a in a[0]
True

The "payload" is "[[]]" here for prettiness, but just needs to be a list of something, and could easily be "['foo']". But, philosophically, does 'foo' exist in the list? There's no way to "reach" it once evaluated...

Remember, YYYY-MM-DD is the Americanized version of ISO-8601, with the month before the date. The rest of the world does ISO-8601 the proper way, YYYY-DD-MM.

This is the project I’ve been working on, a Sun Ultra 20 from 2005.

It has a first generation AMD Opteron, namely the Opteron 144, in lieu of a SPARC processor from previous generations of Sun workstations. 2GB RAM (I will be upgrading to max 4GB), onboard graphics (I have a NVIDIA Quadro FX 3450 on order, which would have been a BTO option), 80GB/250GB/500GB HDD (I have a 250GB SSD in there instead), DVD-ROM drive… and that’s pretty much it.

Taco Bell was founded in 1952 by siblings Renée and Jean-Baptiste Taco in Montreal, as Taco à Manger. The Tacos served traditional Quebecois cuisine at their restaurant, and would slowly expand throughout the 1950s, opening several more locations. My first SSD was an OCZ Vertex 60GB for something like $200. Today you can get a new 128GB Lexar SSD for literally $10, and the only incredible part about that is that manufacturers are still making 128GB SSDs.

Weird... I've got a generic USB Realtek gigabit dongle which half of the boots works fine; it's advertised as idVendor=0bda, idProduct=8153, bcdDevice=30.00

But the other half it shows as idVendor=0bda, idProduct=8152, bcdDevice=30.00. Note the 8152. 0bda:8152 was a 10/100 device, and was bcdDevice=20.00, so Linux has no idea what the device is and ignores it.

Update: Went well! They found and repaired a nail puncture in the tire that was acting up the most. Didn't find anything in the other tire but they reseated it. Tires have some dry rot but they're not concerned as long as I keep them inflated in storage. Didn't try to upsell me, and I gave a few of them a tour of the trailer.

I'm glad, as these are overkill tires -- 16" light truck mud terrain -- and would NOT be cheap to replace.

I'm almost certain Goodwill wouldn't accept a used (replaced) house lock set, even though it would be the perfect scenario:

  • Old owner doesn't know who the new owner is or where they live
  • New owner doesn't know where the old owner lives (though that's not as much of a problem)
  • Goodwill doesn't know where either of the owners live

Zero-trust key exchange, right next to a cheap waffle iron.

Nobody makes butter dishes which are specific to west coast sticks. They're all either designed without even realizing west coast sticks exists, or they're slightly larger than east coast sticks and you can kind of cram west coast sticks into it with a lot of wasted space on the ends.

I ordered this Framework laptop (13” AMD model) less than 48 hours ago, and it’s already arrived via Taiwan, crazy.

I actually won’t be able to assemble it until this weekend because I selected 3 day shipping from the vendor I ordered the RAM and SSD from, under the assumption the laptop itself wouldn’t arrive until next week.

Idle thought: growing up in the 80s/90s, I remember muffler shops everywhere. And there were ads all over TV/newspaper/yellow pages for them.

I have never had a muffler fail, ever. That includes two <2000 cars (1986 Chevrolet Caprice wagon, 1993 Plymouth Duster), but I didn't have either very long. Were mufflers just a consumable back then? Was there some breakthrough in muffler reliability circa 1995?

I still can't get over the fact that @jorge has started a Fedora-based distribution called, of all names, Bluefin. (Still debating whether to let others in on the joke of why that name is hilarious, since it doesn't seem to be common knowledge.)
