I’d like to see anyone build a plane, computer, or any other complex object without having some way to represent variable values in math and without using any math derived using variables. It’s kind of a fundamental thing to have. As a programmer I do sometimes get a bit annoyed with math people using single character variables everywhere though.

EDIT: Additionally, the use of the Greek alphabet is kinda handy. After my first years in university I started to be able to finally decode the stuff my Greek family gave me. Though initially it sucked, because I understood the math but had no idea what character the “gamma” or “lambda” were.

Many of the new bottle caps I encounter will actively push back into the closed position, meaning I have to keep them out of the way when pouring if I don’t want to pour over the cap. Since I tend to encounter them on drink cartons rather than bottles, because I don’t drink soda etc, it becomes even more annoying. Bottles you can turn whichever way, but drink cartons need to be kept at a certain angle for optimal pouring. Quite often the cap is in the way and there isn’t really a nice place to put it.

This is even more frustrating because I never lost these caps anyway, I always threw them away with the packaging. I understand that it probably helps in the bigger picture, but for me personally it solves nothing and is incredibly annoying.

Isn’t it to make sure that you’re not mixing two incompatible chargers? I have 2 Philips chargers that do fit (as far as I can see), but are not the same voltage. I’ve previously also had something like this where 2 fitting chargers were completely different electrically, one 12V AC and the other 9V DC. One time a family member mixed them up, bit luckily the extra voltage didn’t fry anything. I don’t mind having to get an extra charger of it prevents me from doing something dumb and frying my electronics.

I’m Dutch and afaik right-wing media doesn’t play a role. The reason is quite simple, it’s because the previous coalitions lead by the neoliberal VVD have consistently fucked everyone who isn’t rich (and even some who are). Especially the crises that they’ve caused have completely eroded trust in the previously big parties. Some of these issues I’ll lost below.

In the northern province of Groningen houses started getting damaged die to earthquakes caused by government-funded natural gas extraction. The whole country got rich of of this for decades, but when the people of Groningen needed money to repair their homes they sometimes had to fight for years to get anything.

The tax agency started incorrectly marking people as fraudsters for claiming certain benefits, which often put these people in debt for thousands of euros. This has ruined the life’s of hundreds of people, yet the government initially just ignored it. While these people lost everything they had, the government seemed to do everything it could to avoid paying or helping. At some point they did start paying and pretending to help, but for many victims this was simply too little to late.

And then there’s plenty of other issues that erroded trust as well. Years of ignoring “the nitrogen problem” until it was too late and lead to all kinds of issues. The farmers (who are the biggest cause of this issue) suddenly become the target of the government, which they obviously didn’t like. This caused huge protests and the rapid growth of parties like the BBB and probably also the PVV. And there’s also a housing crisis, where buying houses is impossible.

In short: the previous normal coalitions kept fucking up, until people seemingly had enough. There were other alternatives to the PVV, but apparently voting on a right -wing extremist who has all the ideas is easier than voting left-wing for many people here. I hope the damage stays limited, but this is truly a dark day for our country.

Getting constantly punished for being “weak” and showing emotions kinda does create problems it appears. Apparently it’s not very healthy to ignore emotions and pretend to be stronger than you are. It took quite a while to get over that.

There’s so much wrong with the expectations on men set by media and by society. Change is happening, but there are plenty of people who seem to want to keep things this way. Grown up men who still perpetuate all this bullshit, constantly kicking down on any minority group or anyone who stands out just to look tough.

As someone who very rarely watches series, this really hits home. I just rarely have the patience to do so, and because of that I also don’t have any streaming subscriptions. I’d rather play games, because the interaction makes them a lot more rewarding to me. To each their own though, other people don’t play games so they’ll have the same problem with me

I’ve hypothesized before that he just bought Twitter to destroy a platform for “woke” people, but it’s still weird reading it out like this. This whole thing reads like destroying one of the biggest social media platforms while wasting billions of dollars is about the same level of investment for him as buying a new phone is for me. Not insignificant, but also something he just does on a whim. And honestly I think his daughter will not exactly like him more after this lol. Rich cunts like Elon buying whatever they fancy just to gain more power is exactly what she’d hate if the article is to be believed.

We’ve made tremendous progress in a short time. 10 years ago it was absolutely unthinkable that we’d be at a stage right now where we can generate these amazing images from text on consumer hardware and that AI can write text in a way that could totally fool humans. Even as someone working in the field I was fairly sceptical 5-6 years ago that we’d get here this fast

It’s not acting pro-anorexia in its own, it’s specifically being prompted to do so. If I grab a hammer to slam myself on my fingers, it’s not up to the hammer or the manufacturer of the hammer to stop me. The hammer didn’t attack me, I did. Now sure, it’s not that black and white, and maybe they could do more to make the chatbot more cautious, but to me this article is mostly just artificial drama. Specifically ask the AI to do stuff, then cry about it in an article and slap a clickbait title onto it.

GTA 6 is really set up for failure. There’s so many expectations from gamers after all these years with no new installment. Nevertheless, I hope to be wrong about this. GTA games are always a fun sandbox to me, and hopefully GTA 6 manages to get that part right once again.
