If you already have Nextcloud their Notes app is easy to use and has a mobile app

Well done! I tried again last week (3rd try) and gave up when I realised I would need a static ip to get myself off spam blocklists

Nah I’m out bro. Hosting plenty of stuff already and email is pretty critical

Looks like a bunch of personal instances that forgot to turn off self-registration. The down ones likely crumbled under the load

My backup server is running borg server for automated backups from my main server as well as time machine for my macbook and an smb share for manual backup of bits and pieces.

Same server also functions as my vpn (wireguard) and dns (pihole)

Revamped install for Piped (github.com)

Due to difficulties I had installing Piped, an alternative frontend for Youtube, I decided to improve and document the process in a better way. In the end, I pretty much redid the whole thing, leaving almost no stone un-turned. You can test my installer from my repo and post any comments and doubts here.

How would this work with a pre-existing reverse proxy?

I use nightly borg backup to a separate box and then that box uses rclone to back up the borg repo offsite. Before running the borg backup I export all databases and docker volumes so they get picked up.

  • airsonic
  • audiobookshelf
  • calibre-web
  • freshrss
  • invidious
  • kavita
  • n8n
  • nextcloud (with some neat apps like phonetrack and bookmarks)
  • nginx proxy manager
  • vaultwarden

All in docker containers on an Ubuntu NUC

EDIT - also got a dedicated pivpn (wireguard+pihole) on a pizero and time machine server + borg backup server on a pi4 running yunohost

Airsonic has been rock solid for (just) me in docker behind npm on a 6yo celeron nuc

Wow I feel so small time

Are NUC hardware good for self hosting?

Pretty much what the title says, I was wondering, since I want to invest on self hosting applications and my raspberry pi 3 b+ can barely function. I don’t have enormous expectations, just docker containers, nextcloud, pihosted, jellyfin… Any further suggestions (regarding the hardware) will be much appreciated.

I am running almost everything in my home on a NUC (Celeron J3455 1.5GHz with 8GB RAM) and it doesn’t break a sweat.

Running invidious, nextcloud, kavita, airsonic, n8n, audiobookshelf, freshrss, calibre-web, vaultwarden, nginx proxy manager

giddy,

Celeron would handle that (see my other reply)

i have pivpn (wireguard+pihole) running on a pi zero and it is rock solid

Nope. I could be a billionaire and would still pull over for a nice recliner
