Distro for experienced Linux user

Hi, I’m looking for a distro for my laptop. My first distro was Pop!_OS, then I switched to Fedora, then Arch for a year and 2 months ago I switched to Fedora Silverblue, because I wanted to try immutable distro that relies on containers and flatpaks to be usefull. Silverblue is great but not so much for me, its not flexible...

@InverseParallax @chevy9294 whoa LXC / LXD since it uses virtualization means one can rock their own kernels? Hmmm

Before you vote for Trump, remember:

He had dinner with a white supremacist and antisemitic rapper, what's basically "just another" monday afternoon for the guy

@stux before you vote for Trump, don’t. There’s no reasoning to vote for his Russian-asset ass. He’s compromised. Corrupt. Incompetent. And bought and paid for. He’s a puppet of more sinister persons. Electing him again would forever tarnish the US. The first time we were fooled. The second time? We knew and we chose him.

The next release will ship on October 11, four weeks earlier than previously planned.

It will fix one vulnerability graded severity HIGH and one LOW

My apologies for this inconvenience. Of course both of these CVEs are due to bugs I wrote. One of them over 8000 days ago...

@bagder 8000 days ago … don’t beat yourself up, you’re likely a much better programmer now. Thank you btw for curl. It’s an awesome little utility. A Swiss Army knife really.

@Rustmilian @dingdongitsabear the most epic response aside haha folks that say your content is shit won’t watch are just wasting too much of their time on this earth being mad.

Really glad to see all this really nice work in the quality of life stuff happening in Wayland.

@amphetaminisiert @fbsz i3 was so intuitive (long time Vim user) that I ditched macOS for Linux because of it.

@luciferofastora @nyan I love me some gentoo. But the idea of eeking out significant speed improvements by compiling a very package from scratch is just not going to appeal to many people.

gigatexal,
@gigatexal@mastodon.social avatar

@fernandu00 @terminhell I mean a simple grep to filter them out could have sufficed and then that could be aliased but yeah makes sense. Also zsys and their half assed ZFS integration made no sense.

gigatexal,
@gigatexal@mastodon.social avatar

@elouboub @terminhell but they’re brave and ship ZFS out of the box. I wish fedora would.

gigatexal,
@gigatexal@mastodon.social avatar

@jollyrogue @ace yeah. A spin of fedora that included ZFS in the kernel and kept it in line with upgrade without having to pin your kernel to avoid it breaking would be awesome.

Currently I’m on 6.4.14 I think and when dnf upgrade removes the ZFS module to install the latest 6.14 kernel I just install it again and it removes the 6.4 devel package installs like 6.2 devel and ZFS and the module still loads even on a 6.4 kernel. Go figure. Lucky I guess.

gigatexal,
@gigatexal@mastodon.social avatar

@jollyrogue that would be ideal. I think it does. I have to install the 6.2.9 devel package to get ZFS installed on my 6.4.15 kernel which is insane that it actually works.

@Hairyblue @Uluganda yeah I care less about a Linux native game than a game that has DRM and anti cheat that works with proton. I’ve found that all the games I play on Linux that run on proton run so well on X11 (haven’t gone to Wayland yet).

That’s it. That’s the toot.

The X and everything app concept is so dumb

So you're a gamer, and you want to try Linux.

But while you know virtually any Linux distro can be made to run games, you're also lazy, and just want someone to have done some of the work for you.

PikaOS - It's based off of Ubuntu. I suggest the KDE version since it will remind you of the semi-familiar Windows 7 or 10 desktop.

Regata OS - Based off of openSUSE, with KDE, and you'll love the extended hardware support

@Linux_Is_Best GloriousEggroll is a legend when it comes to proton and stuff. So that they decided to roll their own distro based on my favorite distro Fedora is awesome. Pikman also looks really nice. Being based on Ubuntu is really cool, too, as one is likely to have ZFS out of the box.

My concerns with any upstart derivative distro are the typical going concerns. If I nuke and pave my setup for one of these how do I know it’ll be around in say a year or ten years? What if they get bored?
