Hi there, my name is Leo and I love to play video games. I am a #GamerWithoutSight and I love to stream my games on #Twitch and #Youtube as well. YuGiOh is my favorite game and what I consider to be the best game out there. I am working on a project to make YuGiOh accessible to the blind as well with a team of people making it all happen. You can find my Twitch and youtube here: Twitch.tv/LeonianUniverse and youtube.com/c/LeonianUniverse

you know, the more I take care of my younger bro and sis, the more I realize I can't have kids of my own. Its not because of the gross stuff that could potentially happen, or the dangerous stufff that could potentially happen, that shit I can deal with, but you know what I can't deal with? The god damn constant questions that they seem to hit me with every few seconds and the constant follow-up questions that I get after answering those questions on various subjects. its like I'm there god damn google or some shit.

awake very early on my first day back at work because my stupid ear has wax build-up blocking it again! no pain, just a little sound blockage! have tryed water, hydrogen peroxide, and even my little ear cleaning tule kit! so stupid! I gotta go to work and need sleep! grrrrrrrrrrr!

glaroc,

@darren_duff lol, all of those things will make it worse.

glaroc,

@darren_duff don't use tips, depending on how bad it is, you might need to get it flushed, using tips will only move the wax in deeper. Using oil will only make it worse. Ears are self-cleaning and if there is too much wax, it should just clear out eventually, gotta just let it take its course.

glaroc,

@darren_duff cue tips are not good for the inside of the ear canal, putting in cotton like a cue tip in to your ears will almost always lead to build-up and could lead to permanent hearing damage. Use cue tips on the outside portion to clean the excess that comes outside, but not in your ear canal.

glaroc,

@jamminjerry to each there own I guess, but I like to follow advice from the CDC because I trust the government with my health above basically anyone personally.

glaroc,

@cub80_appleby @jamminjerry indeed crooked for sure. Although, I do want to be clear because I may be coming off as prudish. I am not, my vice is edibles. Or at least it would be if I knew a legal place to get them in Virginia.

Mastodon has been incredible for me and my social media experience, but I did want to give my thoughts on decentralization and accessibility. I personally believe that decentralization is great, but with common sense built in. You see, decentralization is great because it allows people to start there own communities free from the fringes of big business, commercial companies, and all sorts of different centralized large-scale authorities out there. Its great because being able to develop in this way builds us up larger and our ability to interact in the way that we do is second to none.
However, I would like to point out that for blind people though, it also leads to accessibility problems. I personally have over the past few months, seen an uptick in inaccessible undescribed imagery. When people get reminded to describe there images, that is great, but the problem is that while some do, others do not. This leads to a culture of laziness that leads to further inaccessibility. people also keep trying to get blind people to find other alternatives to Reddit, YouTube, and other social media that are decentralized, but don't think about just how awful the accessibility of those networks actually are, and it causes problems because us not being able to use those decentralized platforms leads blind people to just use those nice, accessible, centralized brands.
Finally, I would like to point out that decentralization opens up problems with following laws. In terms of accessibility, the fact that websites aren't always accessible are not just concerns for blind people in accessibility, but are also breeches of laws like the Americans with Disabilities Act and certainly do not follow the standardized WCAG guidelines on website accessibility. But because decentralization doesn't have any routes in government entities or control, technically, those laws don't have to be followed, and a lack of awareness of accessibility is created because of the lack of laws to follow reguarding accessibility of platforms for the blind in which we don't really have a say on whether or not these issues get fixed in a meaningful and quick way that doesn't favor the next big visual thing over accessibility for the blind.
Those are my thoughts, what do you all think about this?

Me and my sister are most definitely not blasting lesbian music in my school’s parking lot.

glaroc,

@TheQuinbox How can music be lesbian? Like... made by authors who just happen to be Lesbians or music telling people to become lesbian or music where the entire song is promoting people being lesbian? Like, not really sure what you mean, fine in every way, I am just curious.

I hope Trump doesn't go back in to office, you know why, because if Obama Care is repealed, that means I won't have health insurance anymore, and that means I can pretty much say good bye to any chance of getting my medication or anything I need in the slightest medically.

You know, I hear some talk of getting rid of techno-utopianism, of getting rid of the corporations, but what else is there? Linux, where no screen reader works with touch screens so no mobile Linux for us, where the best desktop for us blind people is Mate, with no notification center, where if you have Braille enabled, and quit any app that isn't GTK based, Orca gets lost in the middle of nowhere? Maybe that bug has been fixed, but for like a year or more, it wasn't. And yes, I know the Orca maintainer has been doing tons more work on Orca lately, and Gnome now has a blind person working on a new way of doing accessibility on the desktop. But I keep coming back to that Fedora meeting, where the tools were really hard to use so that I could barely participate in being one of the few blind people there that has even a finger on the wheel to steer a thing that should be about us. And I don't feel like a group of sighted, able people can make this new vision of computing, a sort of community-lead thing, any better than Linux. I mean, we have communities. And there's still images without Alt-text. There's still Linux live images that don't even have Orca on it. These distro communities still expect blind people, which have been thrust aside for the past 20 years, to come to them with their... feedback. Such a clinical word that's become.

Look, even if it's a community from the bottom up, who's at the bottom? I assure you, it won't be blind people. And if you splenter up that community and tell us to make our own distros, well, we've tried that. Vinux, Sonar, F123, Blinux. All gone. You know which distros support us the most? Debian/Ubuntu, Mint, and Arch. With Fedora you still have to enable accessibility variables last time I checked around V37 or 38.

When you say "everyone," what do you mean by that? Your group? Your group and adjacent groups? All people? Do you know about all people? Do you know about blind people? Or Deaf people?

glaroc,

@devinprater totally right though, decentralization is good, but only if everyone has a say in how its run, whether its linux or Mastodon or something else, if we a blind people don't have a say in providing feedback that actually gets taken care of instead of ignored for the prettiest visual thing out there, decentralization is no better for us than getting centralized and using a Microsoft or Apple computer. At least if we get Windows or Mac OS, they are required to follow the laws on accessibility and will support accessible software way more than the people randomly creating Linux Distros in there garages and not following any laws whatsoever.

Happy Thanksgiving to anyone who celebrates! To get some resemblance of enjoyment out of this day before my family arrives, I made another little audio production. Take this as a lesson, future Quin. Never, ever, invite @Kaliah to your Thanksgiving dinner. And, if you do, @BTyson and @BrailleScreen will just walk out on you when it inevitably gets ugly.

Download: https://quinbox.xyz/audio/Thanksgiving2023.flac

glaroc,

@TheQuinbox @rooktallon @Kaliah @BTyson @BrailleScreen ah man, loved the production for sure! Yeah, definitely should have them charge at each other with knives and forks, maybe get a few other people involved, could be a fun thing to watch!

I want to get to know all of you a little bit better, so I’m going to start asking some questions. What book or series really got your love of reading started?

glaroc,

@evilcookies98 for me it was the Percy jackson series, that and Witch and Wizzard which was a great series, Mazerunner which I liked but not as much as the other 2, and the Babysitters Club which was my favorite series in Middle school, I read all of those books that I could find on bookshare.

glaroc,

@evilcookies98 lol me too, but back then I could payattention long enough to read book after book, now its really hard for me to focus long enough.

glaroc,

@evilcookies98 yep, its the same for me also.

Last week we got three refurbished Dell Latitude 7490 laptops running Windows 10 Pro from Amazon. Of the three, two appear to be working perfectly, and the third appears to have a nonworking Ethernet port. Before I contact Amazon, I want to ensure Ethernet isn't disabled in the BIOS. Later tonight I'm going to run NVDA on it and look in Device Manager. I'm assuming if I see an Ethernet adaptor installed, then the Ethernet is enabled. Am I correct? Ipconfig shows an Ethernet adaptor with media state: media disconnected. The reason I'm asking is there's no one sighted here who ccan help with BIOS settings.

glaroc,

@jaybird110127 You can use Be My Eyes and contact the 24-hour Microsoft Disability desk through there in the specialized help section to help you go throug the BIOS. I did it when I had to recover my system.

Got an Apple TV looking for a new home. It’s the HD model with 32 gig of storage. Comes with the original remote, the original power, cord, and the original box. I don’t have a lightning cable for the remote or an HDMI cable. Asking $50 or best offer, and I’ll need a hand with shipping because no funds

glaroc,

@evilcookies98 I can give you 60 plus shipping I about 2 weeks. Do you have a Pay Pal? We can also talk privately about logistics.`````

How the hell could my YuGiOh server go from 1 project to 3 in just a few days? I mean 2 of them are a little less active, but my god the incoming projects is a little overwhelming to manage as the leader of the server, really cool though for sure!

glaroc, to yugioh

the mod for accessibility has been officially released! I will provide a link to my discord server for anyone who wants to try it out. You will need a controller of some kind, Master Duel doesn't have keyboard support. Will be willing to answer questions, you will also need an add-on for NVDA that can read clipboard text and maybe Speech history if you mis any incoming text. Look out here soon for the link.

glaroc,
glaroc,

I will also note that if you don't know how to play at all, playing is not the way to start learning, there is a tutorial, but the tutorial already expects you to at least know how to tribute summon and if you don't know what a tribute summon is, well that's just something you'll have to learn while playing. Not something I can fix, you'll just have to learn the game. Luckily though, I am more than willing to teach people how to do things like Tribute summon and all the other summoning methods in YuGiOh, but this game is 25-years-old, so if your thinking it will be like where its a walk in the park and you can pick up and win in a matter of 5 minutes, your dead wrong.

glaroc,

I am only stating this because I don't want people coming to me and saying. "Oh shit I didn't win in 5 minutes, YuGiOh sucks!" like a weakling. I've gotten that before and its annoyed me, and those who know me know that I don't get annoyed very easily at all, like literally never. However, if you want to learn, I am more than willing to teach because I know YuGiOh is hard, but its fun nonetheless.

Oh, before I forget, do any of you Apple fans happen to need a TV box? I’m going to have a spare sitting around after Tuesday.

glaroc,

@evilcookies98 Is this a cable box or an Apple TV, because if the latter, I might be interested.

glaroc,

@evilcookies98 How much do you want for it.
