I noticed single houses and walls, made from this special stone. It's 大谷石/Oja-stone, sourced in the area around Utsunomiya. Easy to carve out and form, also insulating well - many of these houses store food.

Day 1/2 of this years rice planting.
While cycling, I saw this restaurant and got the "asparagus menu" recommended. Just a single big pice of asparagus, but very nice. After the 126km I stayed for a night in a hotel in Utsunomiya.

Next day: the beautiful valley where my friend lives.

The team for this years rice planting. The machine, the cars to supply with the plants which have been grown since months.
Actual rice planting done by the machine, but all the pieces it can not do are left to the people

First day of this year's trip to Tochigi-ken, for this year's rice planting. 126km to Uzunomiya. The bags attached to the bike make it much more convenient than the backpack I used last year.

When you run a temple, what can you do to catch peoples minds?
You can decorate the walls with inspiring phrases. Beautiful!

Others might illuminate the path for you, but one self is the one who needs to walk it.
生 in the middle means 'life'

@iramjohn I wonder if there is room for an open project to create a search engine where just pages get crawled/indexed which reach a certain level of the 'credibility' score. Basically, we as users who want proper information would via a browser plugin 'vote' for the credibility of the page we see, and if high enough it would get indexed.
'credibility' as in "I see this page is not a link farm", and such criteria.

As I got the Japan license, I unlocked also a new field of interest when going to Akihabara!

There are quite some shops with radio tech. Most interesting: I was every now and then in "Superpotato", a retro game shop. One of the most famous HAM radio stores is on the ground floor of the same building. Not sure how I could ignore that all these years. :)

Bewildered moment this week:

At the skin doctor, first an assistant asks some questions and fills them into the computer, then says "wait for the doctor" and leaves me alone with the unlocked system. 5min, would have been enough to lookup data of other people.

Awareness for these things is low in , I touch on this in https://blog.fluxcoil.net/posts/2020/10/japan_tech_interactions/

Vocab of the day: 朝飯前/Asameshimae.

朝 - morning
飯 - food
前 - before

"Something so easy, you can do it even before breakfast"
I introduced a friend to the laptop, which can be self assembled easily, so 朝飯前.
Not yet shipping to Japan, unfortunately.

Let's take a task like "uncompressing a file".
It's clear that a Raspi is uncompressing slower than a new and shiny Thinkpad.. but the Thinkpad also uses much more power. Who is more energy efficient?

The article compares the energy efficiency of ARM/x86/RISC-V/AppleSilicon. The created framework can be used to easily compare energy efficiency of other tasks, i.e. kernel compilation.

AppleSilicon with remix shines for the uncompress task I looked at.

At the end of our team meeting, the team leader reminds the team: "We all can finally recover from stress.. but don't overdo it! Driving under alcohol influence is against the law! etc." :)

Apparently, Pachinko machines in Japan are mandated to use the Z80. Since this is related to gambling, it falls under specific laws, and the Security Communications Association only approves the Z80.

Now that it has reached the end of its life cycle, I wonder what they will do.

Sollte man diesen nochmal boosten?

    globalc,
    @globalc@chaos.social avatar

    @Ede Eher nicht, IMHO.
