I thought this would be a nice place to aggregate lists of miscellaneous parenting tips, organized by age. Maybe if this gathers lots of good input, I’ll post another age group in a few days. If nobody is into the idea, no big deal....
By this age we had started reading to him at ‘bedtime’ every night (even though he was still up many times after!) so my recommendation is for the Julia Donaldson lift the flap series: rabbits nap, foxes socks etc. we’ve gone through 2-3 of them between our two kids as they were absolutely beloved and worn to a thread.
I find that super interesting. How are side effects? Currently on concerta XL in Ireland and I keep getting tingling in my neck/scalp so considering going to back to investigate different meds
I don’t think Reddit is imploding overnight but there seems to be an element of death by a thousand cuts happening. I’ve left and burned out three old usernames and over ten years worth of posts/comments. I’ll still use it to find answers to things but increasingly over the last month the threads are peppered with deleted comments and gaps

One of the hurdles to change for users switching from reddit to a federated platform is less content. The logic goes: “smaller community, less content, I can see i’m missing out on stuff over there so I’m not going to switch away”....
A lot of people are boasting here like "well I just deleted my 15+ year account with quintillion karma."
I'm not going to delete my account yet (but probably won't be posting anything on Reddit either). Instead, I came up with a Strange Hobby.
Because password managers are so ubiquitous and easy to use and everyone should use one, I somehow found a complete list of all Reddit throwaway accounts I had over the years. (You know, from back when you could create accounts in seconds and Reddit didn't make you sign a blood pact or whatever.)
So I've been deleting those accounts. There was a pile of them.
And I like to every time I delete an account, a little siren goes off in Reddit HQ and Spez is like "Aaaaagggh! Not another one!"
Ha! I like this. I did similar, nuked two old accounts and then finally did my 10 year old one yesterday. I’m jumped ship entirely. So three less users on Reddit
Installed wefwef Saturday. Sunday wiped out two reddit accounts with ten years worth of posting and officially left the platform. In the process realised I had actually stopped posting and was mostly doom scrolling. Very happy with the decision
I’m new to Lemmy and getting to grips with it all. I’ve found a community !education using the aggregator lists in the starting guide. However if I use wefwef app or vlemmy in browser the search isn’t seeing this community so I can’t join. Am I doing something wrong?
Hello! Part of why I opened this community, aside from the need to leave Reddit, is that I’m very curious about how being a teacher abroad looks like. My first question would be about the workload. Do you have dedicated time for desk work in your contract? What kind of obligations does it entail? If you have to do admin work,...
I’m teaching in Ireland. I don’t have a desk but I’m based mostly out of a specialist classroom and I’m the main teacher so I tend to work there. If it’s in use then I use the staffroom. We teach 22hrs of contact time during the week (ages 12-18) and also 1hr supervision a week (of absent colleagues/lunch breaks etc). There’s no allocated hours for admin/prep. You do it until it’s done. So depending on the week that could be 40hrs alone if reports are due but the following week could drop to 10.
We have good holidays which is amazing as a parent. It’s summer here and I do not return to teaching until august 28th
