Man, getting in discussions about Baldur's Gate 3 characters just reminded me again that this large-scale RPGs are sometimes a way a lot of us work through trauma we can't publicly.

I know people knock that, but honestly, there are characters that trigger me - because they are written to trigger - on subjects I'm not sure the authors intended, and sometimes, their behaviours provide a space for me to think about the issues.

Hey GenX Fedi folks - daughter and I will probably have a movie night while we are away next week.

We agree we need to see a good cheesy movie, but most of what I remember as funny either did NOT age well or is just too American (so she won't get the references - never try MST3K with non-Americans 🤣🤣🤣), and my memory makes Swiss cheese look airtight.

Any suggestions? She has a terrific sense of humour and irony, just needs to be accessible, not homophobic/racist/transphobic etc.

Ok, I understand why people are against self-checkouts.

I do.

Those jobs matter.

But for many neurodiverse folks, those bastards are LIFESAVERS.

No negotiating how quickly you pack up your bags.

No small talk with the cashier.

No stress waiting for your turn.

It's like anything else (see: peeled oranges in supermarkets) - people start judging and NEVER ask if there is someone unlike them that benefits.

This isn't an angry comment, it's an eyerolling one, because it stopped being worth being angry about years ago.

Let's say you have a teenager. This teenager is very capable, also has some disabilities. You invite her to an event several hundred kilometers away which is located out in the middle of nowhere, and leave her to get there on her own.

You also not only don't make arrangements to meet her when she gets there, but you also don't have a phone or really any other way to be contacted.

Kinda sad. Checked up on that friend (actual friend, not like the ex-boss of deeply Q-Anon whacko fame) I was talking about last week and... yeah. Apparently he stayed down the anti-vaxxer rabbit hole.

So I won't contact him next time I'm in town.

I can tell you one reason why he was susceptible that my other friends generally aren't - he's an attractive, blond, affluent, super-privileged white guy who I suspect has never noticed his privilege.

And I guess that trumps intelligence.

Now I'm kinda afraid to make contact with anyone I've been out of touch with, because you never fucking know.

I am eventually going to have to figure out what to do with my damned car.

It's been sitting in another apt. building's garage, undriven and unmoved, for 2 years because I couldn't get it repaired and registered in Switzerland during the pandemic (it's still registered in Germany, but no longer street legal due to no inspections).
