Thankfully I’m not the target audience for iPad Pro but I am for Apple in general, never imagined them to put out a crap like that ad. A whole company that was famous for getting marketing /communication right got something so wrong a sign what to expect in the near future- at least that’s how it feels like.

@boby_biq that's when you know they have completely lost the plot. Let's chat on the next call and I'll tell you a story XD

Schade eigentlich.

@daniel Gee, and we were just talking about considering moving to Augsburg. Points in its favour.

Today’s colour: startling orange.

(First time I’ve tried orange eyeshadow! I like it gently blended in with the pink…)

I like it! Looks great on you.

My eyes are a similar colour and I used to wear shadow that colour with a hint of sparkly burgundy in the crease for definition (because my eyelids tend to disappear ;)

The story about the late U of Utah retired chemist with the dynamite exploding in his house kind of hits me weirdly because the neighbourhood is one I lived in as a little kid and my dad got his PhD there. (For RL friends: YES, that is the location of the infamous bank parking lot)

Anyhow, I guess the dude was a grad student there around when my dad was, but I don't remember him. But it did drag me to the web page, which has an extensive history of the department, and ah... memories.

I used to sit on Bob Parry's lap and eat chocolates and chat with him. He always treated me like a special person and took me seriously. We were buddies. We used to go to parties at Goji Kodama's house and I adoooooored his kids. I managed to offend Jack Simons at about 3 years old (long story involving swearing), and, the glassblower, Hans Morrow, was not only a chess master who taught me checkers, but he was a wonderfully nice guy who kept me company while my dad was in class. So, well... yeah.

It's a weird and treasured part of my childhood, not related to the story at all, but it's dredged up a lot of feels.

Wish I could still talk to my dad.

At least HE isn't keeping weird chemicals around the house XD

I think what hurts the most is that I have these fond memories I cannot really share with anyone.

My brother was born after those times, my mom has a... problematic memory, and my dad won't talk to me if I don't talk to mom.

Meh.

grrrr_shark,
@grrrr_shark@supervolcano.angryshark.eu avatar

@mloxton Yeah, I think that's sort of why I do it <3

You poor people in the void/abyss... ;)

grrrr_shark,
@grrrr_shark@supervolcano.angryshark.eu avatar

@mloxton Yeah, that's the thing.

It's nice to share these things with someone who is inclined to respond because they were there or they are part of a deeper relationship, but it's also nice to be able to talk about it where no one is under any obligation to engage (but some people do anyway ;)

grrrr_shark,
@grrrr_shark@supervolcano.angryshark.eu avatar

@mloxton ROFL. Though with that last bit, except for my dad, I think they have all passed on.

And if my dad is reading my Masto account, well... I'd be shocked XD

EDIT: I am wrong. Apparently Hans is still mastering the crap out of chess :) He was such a nice guy - his family (he and his wife and his teens, who were SO nice to a little kid) took me in for an evening of board games when my mom was pregnant with my brother and I was feeling underappreciated :)

@mloxton Wow, that is so cool

@mloxton Back when I used to have a blog, I posted pictures of how I was turning my wedding dress into a baptismal gown for my daughter.

I am NOT much of a seamstress, but it went pretty well, and in the end, I was quite proud of it. Posted a picture of it and wrote "I managed it DESPITE being the bane of <my home-ec teacher's> class. (She was always really annoyed by me for some reason.)

A couple of weeks later, in the comments: "That's beautiful! Well done. And you were not the bane of my class at all."

XD

Oh no. Have fallen into the trap of an album I still really love.

It's a good album in any event, but Duncan Sheik's eponymous debut album is firmly settled in a couple of points in my timeline where I listened to it constantly, and it brings me back to some of myself.

This week my daughter took the day and went off to the IKEA with the biggest stock of Blåhajs and got herself a couple, for comfort.

I've told her she's hit her Blåhaj limit for a while, but they do make her happy XD

    Well my meeting with the pro-bono psychotherapist was a bust. He doesn’t believe in bipolar and thinks it’s basically a marketing ploy by Big Pharma. So that’s really not a good fit with me and my worldview, the diagnosis makes sense of my experiences in a way no other explanation has. Guess I will have to shop around for a therapist.

    grrrr_shark,
    @grrrr_shark@supervolcano.angryshark.eu avatar

    @purplepadma Ugh.

    So tired of "I don't believe in X..." therapists. I'm lucky not to have them, but I'm always wound up for the encounter with "adult ADHD doesn't exist" or "you're not depressed, you just need to exercise" doctors.

    I hope you find what you need soon <3

    grrrr_shark, (edited )
    @grrrr_shark@supervolcano.angryshark.eu avatar

    @purplepadma Yeah, same.

    And when they don't push back explicitly, they instead start using arbitrary guidelines to exclude - for example, my daughter has solid ADHD and ASD diagnoses, and she has a rather extensive level of disability. But her communications difficulties are generally social or related to certain kinds of abstract thought - so the educational and social systems see this girl who can explain to you how to rewire your house and write drivers for your smart lightbulbs and decide that being smart and being AuDHD are somehow mutually exclusive and that she can be trained to fit in the "normal" box.

    They've nearly killed her doing it.

    It's part of why I am leery of trying to get an adult autism evaluation. I would like to know, and if it's the case, yes, I would use it for certain kinds of accommodation I clearly need anyway, but I know how people are.

    Last place I looked, they wanted to be able to talk to my parents.

    I'm 52 and I don't even talk to my parents FFS.

    grrrr_shark,
    @grrrr_shark@supervolcano.angryshark.eu avatar

    @purplepadma But I guess pushing back is easier than admitting the world goes too quickly and requires too much executive function for people like me who were doing more-or-less OK (less, perhaps, but more than now) in quieter, slower eras.

    grrrr_shark,
    @grrrr_shark@supervolcano.angryshark.eu avatar

    @purplepadma My mom's memory is very... fluid. She's got BPD, so how she remembers it is directly dependent on her own self-image, and I know she'd take things like my selective mutism as a child, extreme social anxiety, special interests, sensory issues, etc, and decide that because SHE didn't think it was a problem, she can't be honest about it now because someone else might see it as fulfilling criteria and then she'd be a bad mom (in her own mind).

    Weirdly, because I started talking very very early and reading at about 2/3, I have distinct memories of all of those things. (I thought about them a lot when I filled out N's assessment, which also explains a lot about why I didn't think anything about her was particularly out-of-the-ordinary at the time!)

    @grrrr_shark@supervolcano.angryshark.eu avatar
