Right, I know that oat milk is expensive (why?) and it's so very woke to drink it but it's genuinely much nicer than dairy milk.

I saw the story running about Amazon building bipedal warehouse robots to help out. I have some concerns.

First, it's laughable to think this wouldn't undercut human jobs. No company will ever admit to it on-air, because unions and lawyers would be at you faster than you can say prime.

Also, this is a stupid use of tech. The reason they are going for bipedal is, as they stated, because of stairs.

The problem here is, tech bros have gone "oh no, we have stairs. Let's build robots to handle it" rather than "oh no, we have stairs. Maybe we should make our workplace accessible"

This is the problem. Some people also cannot ascend stairs without help. We should be making these places accessible to them, not replacing them with robots. We have these things called ramps and lifts. They aren't new, but they are wonderful for people who cannot walk.

So I see the bipedal robots in workplaces as a direct statement that Amazon (and others) do not want to employ differently abled people. Either you work in that environment, or we can get a robot to do it for you.

Now, obviously not all workplaces can easily accommodate, but if you think a warehouse assembled and designed by humans cannot work without stairs...I don't know what to tell you.

@penguin42 the technology is perfectly okay, but the context here matters I think. This wasn't helping people, this was replacing. There are plenty of fields where augmentations like this are great...but I don't think a warehouse for consumer packages is one.

@penguin42 sure, and that's where I'm okay with the wheel-y robots that roam around doing logistics. It makes sense and wheels can be quick. I just don't see the point in legged robots. Why not make your warehouses entirely accessible and then have the wheel robots work with the human packagers / overseers.

I am shocked, shocked! WhatsApp messages during the UK COVID enquiry period were deleted.

Who could have expected that public figures would use an out-of-band communication mechanism, then remove all evidence. Surely they would have left all that unreported incriminating data available!

@tryst There should absolutely be channels to communicate with ministers. It needs to be wholly in control of the government but auditable by any investigate power.

And hell if nobody wants to use email, then we need something else.

But not whatapp, signal, or bloody SMS. It's not designed to be used by entities who need to be legally auditable, and we absolutely should crack down on it.

Anyone instigating whatapp for government business is probably corrupt.

Oh yeah, I did some bouldering yesterday and it was a lot of fun. While the legs had no trouble, I have terrible core fitness and struggled to pull myself up a lot.

Still, loads of fun and I wanna do it some more!
