You know what I really want, notification wise? I want people to stop thinking that everything ends and begins at read and unread. Prioritization and lists are also always flawed and never really work.

Give me read, unread, unactioned, actioned, and an activity long that I can look through so I can figure out everything I did and what order I did it at any point in time

I find it fascinating that we talk about over engineering as if it's a thing in software engineering. It's not, cut it out, stop talking about that.

If I'm a contractor and I over engineer something, guess what? It works for that use case and all the future ones. The only thing I wasted was money and time. Did you make a 10 ton capacity deck when you only need 2 tons? Cool... It's still a deck.

Software engineering? We don't have over engineering. We have "building to solve the wrong problem"

I'm not sure if people are aware, but I sound almost identical in person as I do in my writing. My writing style is very much a copy over of my voice and linguistic patterns, warts and all

Which means all those long soliloquys about tech that I end up writing on here? Yeah, that's a 3 minute long on the fly answer in person

Every now and then I get distracted by nerd sniping myself looking up cameras, TVs, monitors, or other tech gizmos to buy that I end up not buying, and every time I get absolutely livid at how ridiculous naming conventions are.

Been out of progesterone for a month because of national shortages. I finally got some! So now I'm restarting it on New Year's Eve weekend right as I'm about to basically sleep 10 hours this entire weekend and dance about 16-18 hours a day starting Friday night and ending Sunday at like 5am

Does anyone have a favorite "finances, accounting, budgeting" learning set of materials aimed at acting like a crash course for engineering people who have to learn how to run a startup suddenly?

(Or prep finances with executives, do organizational planning, or anything else at a similar level)

I'm not seeing a lot of stuff out there that bridges the gap between "you don't know what EBITDA means" and "You have an MBA"

I'm just sitting here reflecting on the desperate need that software engineering has for licensing, certification, or literally any standard way to determine someone's competence. This whole deal of having to throw people into a hazing ritual of coding interviews has to end; there's better ways for this. There's continuing education, there's training, certs, ..., there's a ton of stuff out there. Tech just doesn't do any of it

The week after Thanksgiving will always be deeply bittersweet to me now.

This month, and next week in particular, mark the anniversary of the Hachyderm incident. @nova, @Taniwha, @dma, @malte, @quintessence, and I worked around the clock for over a week to migrate Hachyderm from Nóva's basement into Europe

I am forever indebted to that incident for launching my public speaking career, and to this team for becoming my beloved friends

And to Nóva, for chasing the dopamine, for tying us together
