What the f*ck people ?
Copying code I wrote into your own project and then reporting bugs which don't exist in the original project and expect me to solve your shit ????

Seriously, use Composer like a normal person and don't rip off other people's code....

And yes, they are violating the project license as well.

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@jrf_nl You aren't the only one 😁

I'm guilty of it as well and I do know some others 🙈

Shit needs to be called out! And then let's move on!

/cc @jaapio @wyri

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@jrf_nl But to be fair, it looked like they did that due to some version not being available to them. At least there was a comment along those lines in the "fixing" PR.

Though I'm pretty sure that could have been solved more elegantly

/cc @wyri

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@jrf_nl Ouch!

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@jrf_nl That's what I meant with "Could have been solved more elegantly"

/cc @wyri

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@wyri In that case people are making heavy use of composer 🙈 - Up to using composer plugins to rewrite code to make it easier to hook into it. (THink removing "final" or making private properties public)...

That doesn't make it better though and might show a certain "I don'T care" attitude...

Just noticed that PHPCPD (Copy Paste Detectory by @sebastian was archived. (Thanks Sebastian for the many good years of this tool!)

What's everyone using these days for scanning for code duplication? 🤔

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@syntaxseed @sebastian Nothing?

I stopped using PHPCPD years ago because of too many false positives.

Also I realized that DRY is not necessarily about code but about logic.

Advocating adding an item to your PHP testing framework that checks that an object doesn’t use the ‘final’ keyword means I can now ignore anything else you have to say. It serves no purpose other than further driving away experienced folks from advocating the use of your tools.

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@grmpyprogrammer You mean a facade (as in pattern) or a class named Facade? 😇

Am I the only one that gets frustrated websites and especially webapps are not usable on mobile devices?

I mean... how long has the smartphone been around? In digital history terms for aeons?

And still there are websites and apps that their developers seem not to use on their phones....

🤦

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@pollita For me it's mostly unusability due to not being able to SEE stuff because it's either too small or one can't scroll....

Skoop, to random
@Skoop@phpc.social avatar

I was today years old when I learned that <a name="anchorname"></a> does not work for anchors anymore, but you can just use the id attribute of any HTML tag and your just jumps to that element

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@Skoop @ciaran When you use <a id="whatever"/> then works... 🙈

But not because of the <a/> but because of the id attribute

@Crell @ramsey A significant decline in existing parts of an ecosystem opens up space for growth of other parts and an evolution of an ecosystem.

It's what most ecosystems do on a refular basis. An ecological balance is never static but always dynamic.

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@ramsey @Crell We absolutely can!

The thing I have issues with is making up arguments regarding The Environment and Changing Nature.

Nature and the environment have no issues with changes. They adapt. The adapted environment will be different than before. Which is neither good nor bad per se.

keeping an environment within specific parameters can make sense for a species when their habitat otherwise becomes inhabitable (global warming).

Cairns are probably the least problem for that 🤷

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@ramsey @Crell Flooding will throw the cairns over and shuffle the stones around again. But yes! I am with you that with less stones and low waters the erosion paths will be different!

But that was not what was mentioned in the article.

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@ramsey @Crell The problem aren't the cairns.

The problem are thousands of people all taking the same trails...

The cairns are just the tip of the iceberg...

Humans shape landscape. Whether via planting crop or trees that are usually not there or by bringing in previously unknown species that then will invade habitats.

Causing a change in erosion patterns is just one way. But who says that is bad? It is a change. It will lead to a different landscape in 10 years than without. Is that bad?

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@Crell They do mean that seriously?

I mean...

If such intrusions brings an ecosystem out of it's balance the ecosystem has a much bigger problem than humans stacking stuff...

Ecosystems are much more robust than people think

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@ramsey @Crell Imagining thousands of people daily wearing out paths, causing animals to modify their normal behaviour, leahing behind whatever they leave behind is.... already challenging....

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@psycodepath Oh! Nature doesn't care about single species! One more or less is irrelevant ...

The earth and nature can easily survivie without humans. Whether that works the other way around is probably debateable...

/cc @ramsey @Crell

heiglandreas,
@heiglandreas@phpc.social avatar

@ramsey @Crell and unless those cairns aren't made of boulders, they will be gone after a flood.

I've seen water transporting stones...

I've had a great time in Poznań. And I hope it hasn't been the last time I visited the city. Looking forward to see some of it after the constructions are finished
