Hamas will be gone after the current attacks but the seeds of hate and loss will bring up new generation of fighters full of hate and rage.

Peace is the only way to end this vicious spiral of violence.

Are we willing or able to end this before it takes more innocent lives.

@palestine

ia42,

@faab64 @CosmicTrigger why else are the Iranians sticking in their fingers, getting the Houthis (Ansar Allah) involved? (did you know they shot Iranian missiles all the way from Yemen to Israel?)

Why else does the US feel the need to move no less than 3 aircraft carriers and a sub full of Tomahawks to the eastern Mediterranean?

I'll try to find you a good summary in English if you want. let's just say that although it's a local war, lots of big powers are pulling strings on both sides.

ia42,

@faab64 @dmoore if it was up to me and the Israeli left, Gaza and all of the WB Areas or at least 90% of them, with territorial continuity, would be given to the PA (no other organization currently has the legitimacy and recognition) to declare as a state.

Since it's not up to me, I hope that at least areas A and B will be handed over, or at least 65-70% of Judea and Samaria. Those were offered in the past, Arafat refused, this is no longer a luxury the PA can afford.

ia42,

@faab64 @saschasegan there's no logic when talking about policy that comes from fundamentalists. Smotritch and Be-Gvir are Kahana followers. Haniye and Sinwar are Sheikh Yasin followers. they don't care how many die in their holy war, they both want to see the other side wiped and believe Allah will let them control the Levant.

The people they affect are fed stories about the Holocaust and Naqba. we live paranoid lives because of them, not a base for a unified society at this generation.

ia42,

@faab64 @saschasegan that's not just one question but those are not questions that were not answered before ;)

Where: like I said, gaza and west bank. Ideally 1967 borders, realistically about 70% of the west bank.

Jerusalem: split east/west, the old city stays under some international joint control. Neither side gets it.

Displaced: should become citizens wherever they are living now, like all refugees after 4 years, normal international rules, no special unrwa definitions.

ia42,

@faab64 @CosmicTrigger
I don't, but I do trust the smart people in the IDF to do whatever they can to save civilian lives. The need to crush Hamas quickly is important, and they are never going to stop using civilians as shields.

You may remember, just a few months back half our airforce said they are losing trust in the government and will stop flying since they are not willing to bomb civilians? If they are back in the cockpits, it means targets are triple checked before bombing.

ia42,

@faab64 @saschasegan for you that's the blocking issue and for others it will be something else. There are also the realities of the world and pragmatism needs to settle things, not dogmas and religion. the minimum is for the Palestinian and Israeli leadership to sit and talk, and that has not happened in years, I am sad to say, and both sides are behaving like children about it.

ia42,

@Azih @faab64 @saschasegan that's Bibi. Hopefully he's going to be out on his ass before January, but whoever replaces him needs to be pragmatic too.

I need to verify this : Israeli military interviewed by channel 12 news claim that Israel attacked, bombed and shot at their own civilians on October 8th.

The news also claims that the family used by IDF and Netanyahu as the proof of barbaric act of Hamas during their attacks were killed by an Israeli tanks shell.

I can't find any western media covering the story but inside Israel, the story is gaining momentum and people are realizing that the official story of what happened on October 7 and 8th is from from the official story pushed world wide #Netanyahu and his blind supporters in the west.

ia42,

@faab64 @palestine it's what the Americans call "Friendly Fire" or "caught in the crossfire". Sadly this is a horrifying possibility. Since you had a few community guards or reserve soldiers with a personal weapon inside, and army units showing up unable to coordinate with them from the outside. Shots may have been mistaken to be coming from enemy combatants. We heard rumours about incidents but in the first weeks it was to painful to talk about it outside the army, I guess now it's out.

ia42,

@faab64 that was on tonight's news? I can go over it tomorrow and find it. I bet something was lost in translation or the streets would have filled up with a million protestors within an hour. No officer would have given such an illegal command and no soldier should have agreed to obey it. If Israelis were shot by the IDF it's definitely an accident. Especially after what happened the day before.

ia42,

@faab64 i remember the stories of Saturday morning, there was a lone attack helicopter pilot that didn't wait for orders, just had the team load all the ammunition he could carry and flew to the border without eyes on the ground or fresh intel. He had little to no way of knowing friend from foe, he had to talk on his private phone to people on the ground instead of proper instructions from the base, and improvise and assume and hope he was only shooting 7amas and not hostages.

ia42,

@oatmeal @faab64
There are rumors of the Hannibal directive when it comes to soldiers because of the high cost of the Shalit exchange deal. I have no solid facts on that. However we are talking here about civilians.

As for the casualties and wounds: the Nu7ba soldiers are well trained and we're armed to the teeth, including RPGs, Iranian thermobarric bombs, special charges for opening saferoom doors. The also took wheels off cars to burn against the saferoom doors and suffocate people inside.

ia42,

@faab64 @oatmeal well, the IDF showed the evidence. If you have a different way to explain how the IDF got Iranian bombs, please elaborate...

ia42,

@faab64 @oatmeal no, I mean actual photos. You think they would prefer hundreds of fake bombs and manually paint them and mark them in Farsi?

ia42,

@faab64 @oatmeal there were a shit ton of Javelins in their weapon stores, all serial numbers traced back to Ukraine black market. I don't where they got the damn Iranian supplies but it's there, and they use it on Israeli villages as seen in the nu7bas' own body cams and GoPro. If you believe no evidence, then why pick one side? May as well call both sides liers.

There was a rumour that "From the river to the sea will be free" has been trademarked. I had to check...

You can try it yourself

Confirmed. A smart (I bet ) lawyer actually paid to trademark the full phrase and can now start suing t-shirt makers, sign printers and what have you. Seems mad, but maybe there's a method to the madness...

For 2-3 days, there hasn't been an update on Palestinian deaths in the Gaza war. Is it just hard to count with the IDF around so many hospitals? What's going on there?

ia42,

@Alon IDF is not killing anyone ATM or maybe all the dead are finally only the Hamas and they are not tallied as civilians.

ia42,

@Alon Maybe the internet got cut off, and the screen is frozen with old stats, ana 3aref?

The Jewish Chronicle ran a piece a few days ago by Douglas Murray, with a "you gotta hand it to the Nazis" part, saying the Nazis felt bad about killing the Jews whereas Hamas doesn't. (The Nazis absolutely did not feel bad.) Now German journalist Jan Fleischhauer tweets in support of Murray and complains German media is too PC to speak truths like "the Nazis weren't all bad."

(Fleischhauer started writing too late to be involved in the Historikerstreit, but was left-wing until the 2000s.)

ia42,

@Alon Murray is a racist right guy, and while it's nice to count supporters for Israel, I would not want his kind at the top of the list (or John Voight, Mike Johnson etc), it doesn't make us look too good if racists and bigots are the most prominent supporters.

Can we stick to acknowledging Slavoj Žižek and such lefties first? :marx:

During a news conference outside al-Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, a doctor has urged the international community to put a stop to the war crimes being committed against Gaza’s hospitals.

“We are now calling [on] the whole world, if there is any awake conscience, please [take] action,” he said. “Any politician in the world now who cannot put the pressure to stop these war crimes on the hospitals, his hands are bloodied.”

@palestine

ia42,

@appassionato @palestine

Can we have a real headcount if right now the hospitals have more

A. Patients, doctors, nurses, medical techs.
Or
B. Hamas combatants and employees, hostages.

The IDF showed you all the reels of Hamas shooting them from hospital windows, Hamas sniping civilians on the coastal road fleeing south, Gazans crossing south safely when guarded by Israeli tanks.

Hamas has openly admitted they are happy to sacrifice civilians.

Why would anyone keep defending Hamas?

ia42,

@jbburd @appassionato @palestine

A. feel free to find objective footage or evidence.
B. Do show believable evidence to the contrary.
C. From interviews with Hamas they are not hiding or feel ashamed of the fact they use hospitals and schools as shields.

So yeah, having lived next to this border for decades, seeing gazan footage on tv and social media, talking to peace activists inside Gaza, I am not surprised by any of their tactics. Hamas are not a government nor a freedom army.

ia42,

@jbburd @appassionato @palestine never called them "most moral", I have a barn of criticism about their methods. The question is, did Hamas leave Israel any choice to behave otherwise? Was there an effective way to strike at the Hamas combatants with no collateral damage? But there isn't.

Hamas can stop the war by releasing the hostages and laying down their weapons. At this moment in time they won't even give a list of names so we know who is alive and who is a yet unidentified body.

ia42,

@jbburd @appassionato @palestine true. The mass killing in Gaza is horrible and I do my best to protest it here in Israel both online and in person.

I just can't agree on the choice of words. I reserve that very big and heavy word to a decision to systematically eliminate an ethnicity like China vs the Uygurs, Myanmar vs Rohingya, Nazis vs Jews.

I am ashamed to admit there are Israelis demanding a genocide, some even serve in this dangerous government, but it is not what IDF is doing.

@oatmeal @israel smells like psychological warfare. Shiites and Wahabi that we're talking about keeping nukes aimes at one another will suddenly become buddies because of the Sunni Hamas? Last I checked Gaza did not freeze over.

The terrorists who decimated kibbutz Be'eri somehow skipped the printing factory. Little did they know, it's where Israel prints all of its drivers' licences, credit cards, monthly credit reports and many more sensitive items from privacy-sensitive computer data.

A month later, MKs and ministers finally start to show up and visit the area, the few kibbutzim like Be'eri that have people present are blocking their entry with their bodies.

ia42,

I am not sure if intl. readers know enough to understand this tragic situation. For 10 months these hard working, ideolog, salt of the earth people were reviled as traitors and instigators by the people responsible for this disaster. They got up and started fixing the damages this sick government is still arguing how to fix an entire month later, they resurrected factories and agriculture instead of sitting Shiva for their loved ones. No minister even apologized.

This entire government must go.
