So I’ve been messing around with a few phones lately, a nexus 6p, a pixel 3a xl, and a s21 ultra, and I’ve noticed that on the 6p and 3a xl both sound louder, punchier, and clearer when compared to the s21 ultra. They also both have that thicc notch design with a massive speakerphone which might add to the high volume...
It absolutely amazes me that grown adults willingly put themselves in danger for the sake of a company that specifically instructs them not to, and therefore obviously does not care about them.
HR can and will hang them out to dry without any comebacks.
It’s disgusting and I tell staff this when they join and I repeat it often.
And they still do it. Which can end up with having an investigation and dismissal. You can’t help some people.
I despise bagpipes. Anyone who thinks that awful noise is in any way related to actual music should have a set jammed into their ears so hard they come out the other side.
When I want to find an app I haven’t pinned to the home screen I swipe up from the bottom of the home screen to bring up a search bar where I can search for an app by name or scroll through list of all apps on the phone....
Best way is to use a different launcher. You can install a few and switch between them. Setting up a new one can be a bit time consuming but you get a feel for them doing so. Keep notes.
I used Nova for years but unfortunately it’s now owned by a data collection company. I found it difficult to find another but since being on Lemmy and reading posts like these, I’ve finally moved to Niagara.
It’s very different but I suggest it for you because of your need tothe search for installed apps. That’s what it’s based around, there’s no separate app drawer. It’s very clever and easy to use once set up, and well worth the effort.
Most features are free but the paid version has a seven day trial. It’s a very reasonable cost which you pay annually and I think it’s worth it if you’re going to use the app. It’s very mature and the dev deserves to get paid for it, especially at the low cost he’s asking. Check his website.
As you can probably tell, I’m a huge fan.
EDIT - as pointed out, it’s not FOSS. My apologies and I’ve edited accordingly.
I understand the reason but it’s the only one I’ve found that’s actually different and good. Getting away from Nova wasn’t easy, a very small fee is trivial to me for that.
Besides, do you also not donate to anything else you use regularly or other worthy causes?
I used to use NewPipe back in the days of yore. Then I got Youtube Premium since it bundled in Youtube Music as well which I used. But the former’s app on mobile is a shit show. I currently own two canon cameras, an EOS M10 i bought around 2017/2018 new for around £150 and a secondhand EOS 1300d i bought last week from a second hand electronics shop for £110 (body only, i already had lenses from an old EOS 200d)...
My wife is getting a new job, and a company car is part of the package. The main issue is that the car must be either BEV or PHEV. She will have access to a range of options via their fleet rental system, but details are still TBC, but at an estimate, it’ll be somewhere around £40,000 final price. There’s a number of...
Is this your only car? (Sorry if I missed it in your post.)
If you’re concerned about range and charging, it’s worth remembering a PHEV doesn’t actually need any charge to run. Some drive less sprightly and others are not too affected.
If you can plan and integrate charging into the longer runs to work without stress, then a BEV is much better, especially when you consider that so much of our driving is short journeys. Longer personal journeys aren’t difficult to plan, there’s Zapmap and Google maps etc.
If you can change to Octopus they will sort everything for the cost of the charger plus install. Myenergy Zappi is about the best for only a little more than the cheaper Ohm crap.
The Octopus EV tariff is very cheap between 11.30pm and 5.30am, and covers the whole house. When you plug in the car, it makes a plan which can extend beyond those times if there’s excess renewables in the grid. When that happens the whole house benefits during those times.
If you need an underground channel dug for the cable, you’ll have to get that done yourself before they install.
Otherwise, I’m very happy with mine. I hope this is relevant and useful for you.
Thanks for the informative comment, much appreciated.
I’ve also heard talk of hydrogen cargo ships but I don’t know if that’s realistic.
There’s also a container technology that’s been developed at Sheffield University, I believe. Each hydrogen molecule is held within its own container and it effectively becomes a liquid. Great for storage and transfer.
Do old phones just sound better?
