idiomaddict,

I got as far as the lice shower. That’s not far, but it’s already such an emotional gut punch. I wish I could read more to give a more well-grounded compliment, but I’m 100% not in the headspace for it.

idiomaddict,

Yeah, it seemed really flip

idiomaddict,

I don’t mean to pry, but… their divorce made them more financially stable?

idiomaddict,

Damn. Good for them, that’s fucking hard

idiomaddict,

Nonviolent people waiting for immigration to process them do not make knives out of paper. If they did, they would not receive asylum.

There’s no reason to conflate this with jail, except that we for some reason jail them.

idiomaddict,

Well we did. We only in the past few years realized how the Romans made cement, which was a far more advanced building material than we had again until the industrial revolution. The Bronze Age collapse is an older example, but we’ve had stories of great civilizations along with the technology they control dying and leaving mysteries for those who came next for as long as we have a cultural record.

The leap to space travel level technology is a big one, but I could see it being a really cool sci-fi novel. I think that’s basically the only requirement for a conspiracy theory: does it sound cool.

idiomaddict,

Looks like a caricature of a young Brad Garrett (the brother on everybody loves Raymond)

idiomaddict,

ß is my favorite. All the fun of cursive qs and zs, with significantly more applicability

idiomaddict,

It’s more because it comes from slave (arbeiten is also related), and both slaves and orphans deal with status changes, but that’s a lot more similarities than I had :)

idiomaddict,

The female orgasm is pretty easy for me to achieve alone. I can generally come within 5 minutes if I really want to.

Coming during sex is totally different, but that’s because of the other factors involved, not because female orgasms are inherently rare or difficult for everyone.

If you like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Silicon Valley you might want to check out Mythic Quest (www.imdb.com)

I feel like it leans more into the latter as a kind of tech industry comedy. It stars Rob McElhenney who played Mac in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and I feel like a lot of the humor his character adds is present in Mythic Quest....

idiomaddict,

I don’t like watching a show about bad people, nor do I like watching bad things happen to people, whether they’re bad or not. I like the occasional clip like kitten mittens, but the rest of the show is not my bag.

I also liked Silicon Valley though

idiomaddict,

Yeah, I honestly think she’s dumb enough to do it for free

idiomaddict,

I don’t think it’s a cover to be stupid and malicious when you don’t need to be. She’s obviously a ghoul, just the dumbest one I’ve ever heard of

idiomaddict,

What’s it been, fifty years since the national guard has gotten to shoot protesting college students?

idiomaddict,

Also, Santa was Turkish, so probably not blue-eyed

idiomaddict,

It’s like bread dough and bread. Reshaping bread dough is easy. The same process doesn’t work for bread, but you can grind it into crumbs and make other foods with it. You probably won’t be able to make the same kind of bread, but you can use it for thickening sauces or deep frying things and it is a form of recycling. Trying to then recycle the next food is much harder.

idiomaddict,

I’m an American married to a German. The next time we visit my family, my father could be compelled to go through my husband’s things.

How could it be at all acceptable to force you to ruin your relationship with your daughter because you’re a citizen?

idiomaddict,

You’re rejecting reality.

idiomaddict,

There’s an edit to your last comment, I see that now. You’re really worked up about this, but please don’t use the word schizophrenic like that.

Would you like me to source an example of something happening in the past that hasn’t been legal until this past Thursday? I can’t, obviously.

Now it is possible for the government to compel (not literally at gun point, rather with the threat of jail time, like how the government compels you to do anything) a citizen working in any of several types of roles (everyone in my family does, yay) to gather information from any non-citizen.

In fact, I could be compelled to gather information on any of my German neighbors, coworkers, or customers.

I don’t think it’s likely. But it’s a law on the books and it’s fucking insane. You’ve mentioned you dislike foreign interference. Please imagine how you would feel if any Chinese citizen could be compelled to gather information for the Chinese government at any time. Would you want to hire a Chinese person?

idiomaddict,

Yeah, I edited my comment to make it less polite.

That’s perplexingly crappy of you. Astounding that this conversation hasn’t been as effective as you’d like. If you had asked me for a source before the edit, when I read it or pinged me, you would have gotten one earlier, though it’s the same source as you received elsewhere.

You should read the law.

cpj.org/…/Senate-RISAA-Letter-Sign-on-Letter-to-S…

This “Everyone Is A Spy” Provision fundamentally transforms the nature of surveillance in this country by requiring American businesses and individuals that have no role in providing communications services to assist with NSA surveillance. The measure is tailor-made for aggressive misuse, which is why Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) described it as “one of the most dramatic and terrifying expansions of government surveillance authority in history.” This dangerous approach is precisely what Congress rejected in 2008 when it replaced the highly fraught Protect America Act with Section 702.

idiomaddict,

You’re intentionally being ruder because things aren’t going your way (your first comment was frankly also rude, plus didn’t ask for a source, so why would I give you one). You can decide that’s not crappy because you’re frustrated, but the rest of us can’t know your mental state. Lashing out because you don’t think you’ll get what you want isn’t behavior that most people find enjoyable.

It’s the same source you already received in another comment. Maybe you’ll read it this time.

idiomaddict,

You asked why people were worried; I explained my worry. You called me delusional, and I defended myself. When you asked for a source so that I could see it, I first clarified what you were looking for, then linked it.

I honestly don’t know what you expected or why you found that frustrating. Regardless, your frustration is your problem.
