Got the camp's first bonfire blazing, with sacrificial items to appease the spirits. I even dug a little ditch next to it to minimise the fire risk.

I wrote about goblin AI on our blog: https://goblincamp.com/2024/03/04/Devlog-Goblin-brains.html I went through a bunch of options before settling on a combo of FSMs and a IAUS inspired system. I'm really pleased with how it turned out, particularly the reactivity and adaptability it enables is really cool. Goblins can pause what they're doing to react to emergencies and then pick up where they left off.

Been working on adding spear fishing to the game this week. Mechanics are in, still need to add some vfx and sfx to make it feel good.

Here's a WIP clip, had to take it since the goblin happened to choose a nice shady spot when it was raining, looked quite picturesque.

My latest village coming along nicely. I'll have to abandon my first field as soon as the last turnips mature, the fertility is depleted for now.

@simeon If you don't grow so many crops that the land becomes barren you can leave the cleared area and plants will regrow, eventually forming a forest. Mind you it takes a few years for trees to grow big.

Finished rewriting an item management system today. It's less lines of code, faster, and has allowed our goblins to learn a new thing: If you want a bucket, goblins now know that first they need to chop down a tree, then chop the logs into planks and finally take those planks to a carpenter. Doesn't matter how long the dependency chain gets, they'll figure it out.

It's a fantasy city-builder/colony-simulator inspired by Finnish mythology.

A big thing I want to achieve is to make complex simulations that are still understandable to new players.

I tried this once 13 years ago in ASCII form, then worked in the games industry on other projects and now I'm back to give it another go, this time with so much more experience.
