@pragprog Why don’t the @ references to mastodon accounts work properly in these toots?

@alex @adamchainz Oh geezzz - that's an amazing idea!

I wonder if we can migrate nameless big record label off hash-star-hash "#*#" delimited files to grimace delimited files?! 🤔 😬 🤔

If I just want fuzzy search of 7,000 JSON documents that span 1.6M of disk... then am I really meant to spin up an Elastic Search instance?

There must be a better way, right?! Isn't there some lib I can use for this?

jamescooke,
@jamescooke@fosstodon.org avatar

@tartley TBH I've nerd sniped myself too 😬

These JSON documents are all bank account transactions - I'd like to be able to fuzzily search the "description" field and receive back all "account" fields that match, best first.

The reason I'd not gone for re matching is because I'd like some ranking of results, and also I'd like the results to come back as more than just the line of JSON that matches.

I'm already using grep / ag / fzf - I was hoping to improve my workflow.

@circfruit @SyntaxError So now I'm imagining some kind of Tony Hart / Bob Ross feed of me painting the heat map while the robot mower mows - all livestreamed. 🎨 🖌️

Is this the world you wished for?!

Folks who have been here for a bit — how do you curate your feeds? Any tips?

Some things that I like: , , engineering for sciences, . recommendations, esp from local perspectives. simple to high effort (today I’m making a clarified margarita). — indie bands (see https://alxmrs.com/faqs#music), making (electronic). Inspiration for making .

@al_merose Saw your toot because of the data hashtag 👌... so +1 for hashtags as a method of curation.

I find the data hashtag itself is a bit 'messy', but at the same time not well used, at least on the Fosstodon federated timeline.

Personally I find the and hashtags more engineering-relevant 👀

    @LucidDan Thanks for that summary - I'll have a read tomorrow.

    To support your "fosstodon good" theory - I have a toy account on mastodon.social and was comparing the contents of the Python hashtag on both servers this week randomly. I found that fosstodon's federated timeline for Python had all those toots that masodon.social had, plus a couple more toots (something like 10 % more). Thanks fosstodon peeps that were here years before me! 🎉

    I was today days old when I discovered you cannot buy Switch games on the Nintendo eShop without having first registered a Switch with the eShop. Which strikes me as a bit weird.

    So I guess my evening is now setting up the kid’s birthday Switch, so I can download games before the sale runs out tomorrow. Bah.

    Anyone out there read "Deveoper Hegemony" and have opinions about the methods described?

    @brianowen I've seen the "collides with reality" of the pyramid / top down system when we were "doing agile" as an engineering team inside a top down business / agency. It's not very good for morale or progress 😬
