Does anyone else still have a printer at home? Ours packed in a while ago and it's fine not having one, until you need an urgent document printed and then what do you do? The problem is that keeping one around and not using it seems to result in problems anyway... There has to be a market here for these sorts of things.

I now have the challenge of understanding all the different types of prams, pushchairs and travel systems and all the different brands to prepare for our new arrival. We were shown what I can only approximate to the Ferrari of pushchairs today, with a cost to match, but now I quite want one...

@coldclimate @jeg1972 That's a shame if they stopped, I got my Nord 2T for less than £409 by trading in my old 6 at the same time. It made sense to stay in the ecosystem for that, but now I might have to look elsewhere...

Shops asking for email addresses for a receipt, what do they do with it? They say it's for the environment but I seem to get a lot more spam through after using it. I prefer a paper one and then to recycle, am I wrong here?

Meeting up with some folks I haven't seen in a while in person at the pub yesterday got me thinking: I used the old-bird-site for finding and interacting with local north-east UK (and remote) technology folks in the past, but I don't feel that works as well with Mastodon - what are others doing these days to try and fill the gap?

  • 2x Samsung 4k 27" monitors, USB Type-C connected
  • Magic keyboard and mouse
  • Jabra Evolve2 Bluetooth headset
  • Simple IKEA 2m table top and legs
  • Trusty 11yr old IKEA Markus chair

@jtruk There are times one is underused. I tend to use my laptop screen only for Spotify/Zoom, my right screen for focus tasks e.g. IDE or a document I'm writing, and the left screen for everything else including browsers, email, Slack.

I don't use 4k resolution on the screens as my eyesight isn't that great, so I've got them set to 1440p at the moment, which is a nice balance.

It's not been an easy few days. I've been unnecessarily hard on myself for a while during a bout of demotivation, something I do periodically, but this time it's carried on for a few weeks. When I'm like this I don't feel I deserve anything I have, including any level of happiness, which can mean I start to spiral. I'm starting to come out of it today and think of proactive and productive things to do again, but only just. Always take care of yourselves, folks!

@jtruk Thanks James, that's very insightful :) I'm aware that some of my challenges come from the unrealistic expectations I set for myself. Even doing a couple of small things tends to help, so I need to start small and work my way up. Even posting on Mastodon was a little win. I'm lucky to know some awesome people on here :)

There is very little that beats the feeling of someone not turning up for the reserved seat next to you on a full train. I now have some space and some quiet :) After two weeks travelling I'm counting the small blessings...

Yesterday was a horrible day. After a tough time brought on by multiple illnesses, we made the decision to put our lovely rescue cat Smudge to sleep... She was part of our lives for 11 years and we'll miss her terribly...
