@macrumors As suspected. People were way too alarmist about this. It was just corrupted photos being restored from local databases all along. Still not a great bug, but "omg apple has been secretly storing all our deleted noodz this whole time" was clearly BS

You are still unable to submit a visionOS app to the App Store with the current, shipping version of Xcode 🤷‍♂️ It's been a week.

All because visionOS 1.2 hasn't actually released yet.

@stroughtonsmith Wow, I guess even Apple themselves have already lost interest in Vision Pro.

World of Warcraft is doing something it's never done before: it's re-running the Mists of Pandaria expansion as an alternate game mode with a reworked reward system and scaling, stackable, highly-overpowered modifiers. When the event is over, in 95 days, your completed character will be ported over to use in the main game and ready for the latest content. And Dragonriding, the new dynamic flying system, is unlocked from the start so you can zip and swoop around the continent freely. Tons of fun

@stroughtonsmith I’ve never played WoW (for more than an hour or two). I love loot-based RPGs though. Is it worth getting into at all now or is it a “you had to have been there” kind of thing?

Noticing a lot of eBay descriptions clearly written by AI lately. Like a 4th grader trying to boost the word count of an essay with sum-zero phrases.

I’ve not sold on eBay in years so I’m curious to know if they’ve added an AI description service for sellers or are sellers getting them from an external service?

jcdenton,
@jcdenton@mastodon.social avatar

@paulrickards Funny, I was just noticing this today. It's terrible because some sellers seem to think they don't need to describe the condition of their items anymore. The generic "this Apple Power Macintosh G3 would make a great addition to any collection!" doesn't help me.

I’ve been rebuilding a installation that supports my classic Mac habit 😄

I used to use the awesome image which includes a ton of pre-configured software like . But it hasn’t been updated in a while so I used it as excuse to start from scratch.

I used this Pi Zero W as my starting point. HDMI video stopped working on it for unknown reasons. I added an Ethernet/USB hub hat and a 2 hat for devices.

jcdenton,
@jcdenton@mastodon.social avatar

@paulrickards Off topic, but I so love the System 7/Mac OS 7 aesthetic. First time they introduced a splash of color into the UI before later refining it with Platinum.

Why we’re “interviewing” captive birds to find the best to release into the wild

I'm fascinated to see what file format/approach we will need to use for our app icons in visionOS. Based on the visuals we can see in the promo material, it looks like we might be providing a segmented stack of images which the OS then magically makes “3D”. Though I suppose a custom 3D format could also be possible but seems like that would lead to less consistency between apps.

Update: Whoops, I missed this was in the visionOS design talk. Multiple layers confirmed: https://developer.apple.com/wwdc23/10076?time=131

Hey @gruber, just listening to TTS and you talk about notes apps and how Vesper worked (tags only, no folders) and that you miss that way of organising. I'm not sure if you've mentioned it before but have you tried https://bear.app? It's an absolutely gorgeous Mac/iOS only notes app that uses tags for organisation (it even does nested tags). They're about to release 2.0 with more extensive MD support... and yes, they have a way of importing from Apple Notes ;)

jcdenton,
@jcdenton@mastodon.social avatar

@gruber fair enough! I have a pathological predilection to hopping between PKM/note-taking apps so I’ve tried most of them and it’s definitely the most elegant and considered one of the bunch. Unfortunately I’m now way too deep in the Obsidian ecosystem and rely on all its plugins and features for my STEM work so I’m pretty much stuck with it.
