The Republican National Committee’s Washington headquarters was briefly evacuated on Wednesday as police investigated two vials of blood that had been addressed to former President Donald Trump following the presumptive presidential nominee’s takeover of the national party apparatus....
Sorry if this is the wrong community for this. I’m looking for a compilation of Trump’s most rambling moments (e.g., “Look, having nuclear”; Gettysburg being beautiful; etc.). Does anyone know of any sites that would have something like this? Thank you!
Less than 10 seconds after officers opened the door, police shot Yong Yang in his parents’ Koreatown home while he was holding a knife during a bipolar episode....
It sounds like the family did the right thing. They did NOT call the police, they contacted LA’s mental health team, who sent a mobile response unit.
The issue with mobile crisis teams (which most cities have by now) is that they won’t do anything if there’s a weapon besides call the police. That’s where things went south.
There needs to be more collaboration between mental health response teams and police to prevent this sort of thing. Also, wtf is the point of carrying a taser if you pull out your gun on a dude who is barely moving and holding a knife? Probably didn’t even need to be tased.
Even your study that (you claim) says it doesn’t work basically concludes it works for depression? I’ve only seen it used in treatment-resistant depression and it’s worked from what I’ve seen. But that’s like 2 people
Edit: I’m not convinced you read those studies actually….
However, subgroup analysis showed that the risk of recurrence was significantly lower in patients receiving ECT with antidepressant therapy compared to the antidepressant group alone
The present meta-analysis showed that ECT, in combination with pharmacotherapy, effectively reduced the risk of relapse and recurrence at the end of the study trial… This shows a potential synergistic role for ECT and psychotropic drugs in the maintenance treatment of depression.
So, it works? The second study has a couple issues though. As the first one points out, ECT does not work as well (though still pretty well) on Bipolar individuals, yet the second study lumps bipolar and unipolar depression together. The study also acknowledges that maintenance ECT sessions are not consistent across studies, which is a major issue. Obviously if you aren’t doing follow up visits, you have a higher risk of relapse. This is the study you claimed showed it was not better than other treatments.
They also state:
a meta-analysis by Dong et al. [20] found that ECT was superior to maintenance antidepressant therapy in preventing depression recurrence.
Back to the first study…. It’s about kids. Even within the study, they acknowledge it seems to work better on older children. So that study doesn’t say it doesn’t work, it says it doesn’t work as well on younger children. It also acknowledges:
A retrospective cohort study showed the risk of suicide was found to be significantly reduced for adults with MDD who received ECT.
In other words, while it may only “work” on up to 70% of patients, it might mitigate the most severe symptoms of depression and prevent suicide.
Basically, I don’t see anything in what you shared that calls ECT ineffective or controversial. Even the “negative” study you shared indicates it works. It does not focus on treatment-resistant depression though, which is the most interesting application.
Yeah but the wildfire situation won’t get better any time soon, even if we stopped all emitting today. You need controlled burns. A small controlled burn is a hell of a lot better than a massive uncontrolled one.
But they haven’t been doing controlled burns, that’s part of the issue. At least in the USA, controlled burns stopped for a long time. Now we have forests that are too dense
Playing devil’s advocate here but every Planned Parenthood I’ve seen has protestors just about everyday. They stand around with stupid signs and 99.9% of the time, nothing else happens. While I don’t agree with them, I don’t think bringing a 12 year old is a risky move.
Politics is news. But yeah, probably more than half of my posts on here are political. That’s just the important news of the day imo. If you see other news, you can make posts
SCOTUS has ruled in the past that some reasonable restrictions can be placed on the right to bear arms (banning kids from carrying, for example). Not to mention that some legal minds disagree on the entire intent of the 2nd amendment
The linguist might seem out of place here but I’ve always felt that analysis was pretty damning for SCOTUS’ take during Heller. Been a couple years since I read that article but it really stayed with me.
Sorry for all the edits… but to be clear, prior to Heller in 2008, there was no assumption that an individual had the right to arms

Is there a website that collects Donald Trump's most incoherent speeches and tweets?
