I love pretty much doing everything #offroad. Current obsession is my #jeep #cherokeexj. I've picked up a passion for #photography and am a #softwareengineer by trade.

Haven't been wheeling in a couple weeks. The dogs are getting restless. I might have time this weekend...
See if you can spot the doggo. ;)

@Archnemysis I tried using a harness that straps her basically to the seat/seat belt but she hates it. She wants to run around the inside of the car and stick her head out all the windows.

Well, looks like my mill's draw bar fell out of the machine somewhere in transit. I've got a part number, but can't find someone that sells it. Wondering if this is a universal part or not. Do I just need to find a draw bar for an R8 spindle?

jerry,
@jerry@shouldagoneoffroad.com avatar

@mcdanlj I don't know much about either (VFDs or rotary phase converters). Currently looking into a VFD running on 220V to power this. The motor does have a data plate on it and it matches the info you found.

jerry,
@jerry@shouldagoneoffroad.com avatar

@mcdanlj I need to disconnect the motor from the power supply and switch and test continuity to see if the motor is still any good. After that, I gotta find a new draw bar... :D

jerry,
@jerry@shouldagoneoffroad.com avatar

@mcdanlj Haha -- not stupid questions. ;) I have a crappy HF lathe. I have a 7/16 20 die though.

Drawbars seem to be fairly cheap on MSC and McMaster -- I just don't know the length. Also realizing the part numbers in the manual basically mean nothing... haha.

jerry,
@jerry@shouldagoneoffroad.com avatar

@mcdanlj Clough42 has a pretty thorough VFD series as part of his electronic lead screw lathe project. I was hoping to largely follow that for information. I just joined Hobby Machinist last week -- I'll probably post in there as I get closer to spending money on things.

So, I had an interesting weekend. I need to find some info on this motor and how to power it. Looks like 3 phase. Also need to figure out how to service the oiling system. Model 100-1527.

Good morning, friends. 💮💮💮

18 January 2023

My Harley-Davidson motorcycle is finally in the shop. I called the Harley dealer in Alexandria and asked if they would come and pick it up for me and they were more than happy to do so. The bike is a 2005 Dyna Super Glide Custom, I bought it brand new 18 years ago. I did some addition customization, foot pegs, wind shield, and a sissy bar. The dealer tells me that some relays need replacing, it also needs a service, and I'm seriously considering adding leather saddle bags. I know that there must be some motorcycle enthusiast out there; what do you think about adding saddle bags?

My wife is not thrilled about me riding.

“He had changed. And not for the good. He was using strong language - filthy in her estimation - and had become totally immersed in the restoration of the motorcycle.”

@Swede1952 @leerayl FYI - found your post because you used the #motorcycle tag.
HD dropping the dyna was a mistake IMO. I miss the wide glide. Also miss the night train. Don't forget to check classifieds for saddle bags. Especially on harley forums and facebook groups.
One more thing - some bags offer quick release fasteners. This can be handy if you want to lose the bags for some reason on a whim. Good luck! (Photo because i finally get to talk about bikes -- would love to see photos of yours!)

@cynblogger Of all the places to find someone that follows Nick Zetner :D I need him to come to Utah for a few years and help me figure out what all is going on here. Just found out I live next to a dormant volcano yesterday.

Was kicking around the idea of plasti-dipping my car... would go from the factory red color to a matte blue. Is this the worst idea ever?

From last weekend. We all thought this guy was reversing off the obstacle. Dude decided to do one last "full send". Was pretty fun to watch, but he put it on its side. A quick winch got him out of there.

Watching this guy (Lyle from StrapFlap) at EJS was pretty great. He was driving a manual transmission YJ up all kinds of crazy stuff. I'm really hoping those guys come out again.

Jeep YJ lifts its passenger front tire as it rallies up a steep, cambered red rock grade. A spotter is standing off to the right with a radio.

Took another crack at editing this photo from last year. I've since got new things I need to try. I need time to get out and make some photos.

    @supernovae I'm thinking the same thing. YouTube Music isn't competitive compared to Apple Music or Spotify. If I could just get no-ad YouTube videos for less than "premium" I'd do it today.

    Toyota believes it could make a solid-state battery with a range of 745 miles that charges in 10 minutes.

    If this actually happens, it would be amazing. I'd take an electric Subaru Crosstrek with a 750 mile range, please.

    @bryanhansel To take the redneck perspective... a 500 mile range makes it realistic to convert my Jeep rock crawler to electric. Would be great to not have to deal with 15 mpg anymore.
