Wondering if people might become accustomed to uncanny valley characters if exposed to enough shitty cgi animated films as kids?

Thought provoked by 6yo happily watching Alvin and the Chipmunks or whatever the hell it is called, where all humans look like undead Sims characters.

But maybe not, 10yo readily recognizes the creepiness of said show. Maybe the effect stems from something fundamental to developmental psychology.

Today the kids watched an episode of said show, where they made dolls of the characters that already look like creepy dolls…

@kupfers @triple @eWalthert Tend to agree – had to fork out like two hundred euros on interrail first class reservations from Girona to Paris, when our normal reservations that Also cost over a hundred were void because of strikes two years ago. Lucky weren’t stuck in Madrid then, where people had to queue for hours. Also the wifi was broken the whole trip, only difference from regular class apparently wider seats.

Helsinki mall bike parking at capacity today at late shopping rush, 19:00. Time to consider expanding?

This mall in Pasila, Tripla, has a fair amount of bike parking, but some of it is at less than ideal locations. This one on Firdonkatu is unbeatable for access to the ground floor supermarkets.

And yes, those are all bikes in active use, because I saw these stands empty not many days ago.

Verne’s ”Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas” has some surprisingly modern themes of social justice and environmentalism for an 1870s book.

Except right after Captain Nemo upbraids harpooner Ned Land for wanting to kill some innocent whales just for fun, he then proceeds to slaughter a pod of sperm whales with his ship, referring to them as vermin of the oceans. The sperm whales are described as monstrous predators of other whales. A common misconception or Verne just making shit up? 😅

Also fairly wild when you think of it that back when Verne wrote the book it was apparently unclear whether Antarctica even was a continent. He has Nautilus sail under ice right up to the Pole.

Verne did live to read about the 1902 expedition by Robert Falcon Scott ja Ernest Shackleton, that made it to 600 kilometers from the South Pole.

Hesarin sunnuntaietusivun hinta on 78 714€. Musiikkitalon konserttisalin kapasiteetti on 1693 paikkaa, ja 45€ lipun hinnalla loppuunmyyty konsertti tuottaisi 76 185€. Vieläpä 25-henkinen orkesteri mukana, muhkea hinta siitäkin.

Olkoonkin, että konsertteja on tulossa muillakin paikkakunnilla, siltikään ei tämän mittakaavan mainostamisessa näytä kaupallisessa mielessä olevan mitään järkeä.

Millähän rahalla ultrakonservatiivinen, Venäjällä uraa tehnyt laulava poliisi tätä touhua oikein pyörittää?

Does your language use the terms staccato and crescendo outside of strictly musical contexts? According to today’s breakfast table discussion they might be much rarer in metaphorical use in Finnish compared to English or Swedish. Esp. in English it is fairly common to describe something happening in a staccato rhythm.

@aleksi partner thought me very snobby for claiming that those are just normal metaphorical words. Turns out that my impression was skewed by English.

That said, one article in Helsingin Sanomat describes Estonian as spoken with a staccato rhythm.
