joe_cool,

Didn’t work out for Randy in South Park either…

joe_cool,

In the tub. For a relatively short time.

joe_cool,

And disappears and reappears without rhyme or reason like it’s possessed.

joe_cool,

Considering we now have a “CD” that stores 125TB of data ( livescience.com/…/new-petabit-scale-optical-disc-… ).

Not all older tech are necessarily worse. An LTO-9 tape can also store 18TB of data per tape. It’s still sold today and great for archival.

Other cheaper, less error prone tech usually gets mass market penetration. But I am happy that massive storage niche tech is still there.

joe_cool,

True. 12h to write the whole 18TB makes it a bit impractical for stuff other than backups. ;)

joe_cool,

Oh you can totally erase and reuse the tapes. Depending on the tape software you can also rewrite parts or replace older files with incremental updates. It just really takes a while of rewinding. And the noise it makes is kinda retro…

joe_cool,

That’s an older one but they are still like that: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJX2o1JYgQg

Microsoft is once again injecting pop-up ads into Google Chrome on Windows in a bid to get people to switch to Bing (www.theverge.com)

The software giant first introduced malware-like pop-up ads last year with a prompt that appeared over the top of other apps and windows. After pausing that notification to address “unintended behavior,” the pop-ups have returned again on Windows 10 and 11....

joe_cool,

If I continue to break the law with my car they will take it away.

MS should be forced to sell Bing+Edge as a separate entity.

joe_cool,

I wonder what would happen if Chrome asked the user to replace Onedrive with Google Drive on startup.

joe_cool,

It does. I use yandex in my Firefox porn container now.

Pornhub shuts down in Texas... and predictably, VPNs benefit (mashable.com)

From the article: “Unsurprisingly, this skyrocketed searches for the best VPNs. According to a SlashGear report sent to Mashable, searches for “Texas VPN” jumped by 1,750 percent in the past day. It also spotted a 1,600 percent increase for the phrase “How to access Pornhub.””

In a perfect world GeoIP should be illegal.
Let’s see if Elon’s satellites will bring uncensored internet to every inch of the planet.

joe_cool,

SimpleX is very neat. But it cannot do multiple devices unless you count shutting down, exporting database to new device replacing existing database as a sensible workflow. Using the database on two devices at once will break encryption and cause all sorts of weird problems.

joe_cool,

We have that one as well in Bavaria:

Als würd’ dir ein Engelein auf die Zunge bieseln.

Dakota Johnson on ‘Madame Web’ Blowback: “I’ll Never Do Anything Like It Again” (www.hollywoodreporter.com)

“It’s so hard to get movies made, and in these big movies that get made — and it’s even starting to happen with the little ones, which is what’s really freaking me out — decisions are being made by committees, and art does not do well when it’s made by committee,” she added. “Films are made by a filmmaker and a...

joe_cool,

My trench coat is kind of like a cape. It’s really impractical on my motorcycle.

joe_cool,

I have it disabled anyways along with the Carrier Services app. Guess what: my battery life improved dramatically.

Hangouts/Google Talk was great when they had federation and allowed 3rd party clients. After they locked that it went to shit.

joe_cool,

Youtube 2012 loaded in 1 second on a 5MBit line. HTML, CSS and JS for a page was a few hundred kilobytes.

You can profile the current “responsive” version in your browser. It might not look horrible but it’s a technical abomination. I doubt it’ll even load anymore in a browser from 2012.

Back to the 90s.

joe_cool,

I couldn’t tell you. I ditched it for GrayJay since it was in alpha and couldn’t be happier.

joe_cool,

There are two that work pretty well. Yuzu and Ryujinx. A while ago some games only worked on one or the other. Thanks to open source they both improved dramatically.

joe_cool,

I think they started with cards. Poker and other card games. I remember that they still sell them, at least the hanafuda cards.

joe_cool,

They did that 10 years ago. Right around the time they added the video stuff. Didn’t work out. rockpapershotgun.com/steam-stepping-back-from-sel…

Around 50 are still available if you know how to look for them: store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Released_D…

Watch Kung Fury if you want to test it. I loved the cheese: store.steampowered.com/app/374570/Kung_Fury/

joe_cool,

Since you can’t put a company in prison, all of management should be on trial for intentional poisoning of the population.

joe_cool,

Why not use anidb where you can configure titles to your preference?
