Looking forward to a future where all the work is done by robots and everybody gets a kitten.

Sometimes I write in English, sometimes in German. Sometimes I write meaningful things, sometimes just hopefully pleasant nonsense.

German parliament has just passed the “self-determination act” ( ) which lets people change their gender and name in official records and legal documents through an administrative procedure based on self-identification. This is a major change from the previous legal status that often treated the identity of trans and nonbinary people as a medical diagnosis. 1/2

Although the new law doesn’t go as far as many have hoped, it is important as Germany now becomes one of thirteen European countries that allow trans people to self-identify. 2/2

Is it possible to have ears that are shaped in a way that using in-ear headphones is impossible? Or is there a trick or even a helpful video tutorial?

Schade!

Es geht natürlich um Biángbiáng-Nudeln! Und so sehen die Nudeln 🍜 aus.

Ganz schön breit, die Nudeln.

I know, I know, “cyber” is a weird word and for some people it’s cringeworthy.

But on the upside, now that everything about computer crime and network attacks is “cyber”, we sneakily and secretly got “hacking” back for the creative and critical use of technology.

“The recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) such as large language models enable the design of the Faster than LIght speed Protocol (FLIP) for Internet. FLIP provides a way to avoid congestion, enhance security, and deliver faster packets on the Internet by using AI to predict future packets at the receiving peer before they arrive.”

Two things that the Internet brought us and that I would count as major improvements with regard to the quality of life:

  1. more cat pictures
  2. clocks that are connected to it will do this weird change thing automatically for you every six months without you having to remember it

Ich weiß nur gerade nicht, ob eher für „Enshittification“ oder „Tragedy of the Commons“ oder einfach „This is why we cannot have nice things“.

The latest report of the UN Panel of experts on North Korea for the UN Security council has some interesting numbers on how much North Korea (DPRK) relies on the theft of cryptocurrencies for their program of weapons of mass destruction: 40 to 50% of the budget comes from stolen cryptocurrencies. 1/4

johl,
@johl@mastodon.xyz avatar

"During the reporting period, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea cyberthreat actors continued targeting the virtual asset industry to evade United Nations sanctions and generate revenue. According to one Member State, the malicious cyberactivities of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea generate approximately 50 per cent of its foreign currency income and are used to fund its weapons programmes." 2/4

johl,

"A second Member State reported that 40 per cent of the weapons of mass destruction programmes of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea are funded by illicit cybermeans." 3/4

Looks like there is finally a second successful use case for cryptocurrencies apart from ransomware: funding North Korean nukes. 4/4
