Every now and then I think 'god, how can I possibly continue telling my silly little fuckstories when the world is so full of trauma and pain? Why do I continue doing this pathetic tiny stupid thing when I should be focusing on the stuff that actually matters?'

And then someone decides to make a musical out of the Gwyneth Paltrow ski trial.

jugularmalloy,

@girlonthenet I've only just come across you. I probably won't listen to ur porn coz gay but I think porn is a valid artform that can be interesting and radical. It also offers a catharsis from this world like no other artform can, coz kink is so connected to our innermost contradictions. But even if your porn doesn't do any of that, you are making community funded porn that is hosted on the fediverse. That means you're literally BUILDING a better world right here, right now.

So the thing about alt text is that I enjoy writing alt text but my autistic brain usually writes 300 words. I just write down EVERYTHING I can see until I get tired. This is great when I actually do it but it makes me feel like writing alt text is a lot of work when I know Neuro-efficient people can write good alt text in like 4 short sentences. I wonder if someone could teach me a system of writing good and CONCISE alt text?

I wonder… before the Internet, how did most Autistics do special interests and research rabbit holes? Hang out in libraries? But lots of books? 🤔

Thinking back, I guess I used to look for television documentaries and public broadcasting type stuff. It definitely wasn't as helpful as Internet.

@actuallyautistic

jugularmalloy,

@JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic Libraries and conversations in bookshops, particularly second-hand bookshops. Also the proto-internet: zine culture and small newsletter circulations. For example when I was a trans kid in the 90s we subscribed to a black and white photocopied magazine called Boy's Own for trans men. In the same way that "if you can think of it, it's probably online", if you could think of it, there was probably a newsletter.

jugularmalloy,

@KaCi @actuallyautistic I find this so hard. Is this related to what we call grokking?

jugularmalloy,

@autonomysolidarity What is up with this Telegram thing? Do they have a huge marketing budget? I don't use Whtspp and, though it's getting a little better now, consistently Telegram is most likely to be the alternative app that people have on their phone. It seems extremely sinister to me that a company seemingly puts huge resources into marketing as a privacy app whilst not being a privacy app. And this has been the case for as long as Telegram has been on my radar, about 10 years.

Am very annoying and smug about my deg**gled android smart phone but you know what I miss most about having a normal phone? Playing Broken Sword 😪

jugularmalloy,

@MediaActivist Oh I never heard of that one! I'm on Lineage on a One Plus 5. It's pretty great but my usb c port is now too worn for data transfer so I don't think I can actually upgrade (I think there is an inbuilt means of upgrade but it doesn't work)

jugularmalloy,

@MediaActivist I absolutley loved plugging my phone into my computer and using terminal to install programmes. It's also just a really good way of moving large files without relying on cloud hosting. I'm basically just copy&pasting a following instructions but it makes me feel like a hacker genius.

jugularmalloy,

@MediaActivist Oh I don't know that meme but is it from that terrible TV show ?

jugularmalloy,

@MediaActivist Hey sorry I never replied to this I tend to be very flighty with social media. I agree! And that makes a lot of sense: padding it out. One good thing we do in the UK is mini-serieses that feel like serialised films. But I thought it was pretty lazy in its treatment of the subject matter which is fascinating and important. I see this a lot when the subject matter is present day radical politics. Felt the same about the Riot in Orange is the New Black. Suddenly an incredibly sharp show got stupid and silly.
