@robmclennan I remember she'd been working on this and I've had it at the back of my mind to keep an eye out for it. Ordered!

Been wondering if Google et al know that their generative AI has maxima they won't be able to push past but are continuing to put it in everything purely because it juices the stock price.

Composing is a lot of fun and it's eating all my time to be able to finish stuff at a rate such that I might get a SotW release by next year, so I'm grateful for the poem that came unbidden and largely finished yesterday.

Watching the Jays game and the audio's weird and apparently it's because there's some sort of power failure in Detroit and the broadcast team is calling the game via Dan Shulman's cell phone. It sounds like a tin can. He's joking about whether roaming charges can be expensed. I've watched baseball seriously for twenty five years, never seen a game like this. This is wild.

SEO rumours and tips about what helps place high on Google have ruined the web. Every Pinterest recipe is full of Q&As that nobody cares about ("can I substitute ground lamb instead of ground beef?" — of course you can), and now Baseball Reference is padding their pages with content designed to be useful to Google, not an ordinary user.

IMSLP is a treasure (I'm reading the score for Bruckner's 9th to figure out exactly what's going on in the big first movement).

There is a part of me that wishes I could have continued on horn past university in a context that isn't, eg, community band. I played in a youth orchestra in grades 11 and 12. It was an incredible experience. I miss playing big, difficult ensemble pieces.

The Canucks broke my heart in 2011. I've watched the odd game since then, but not like before. Turns out, it's not bad decision. I can barely name a player on the roster. The wins don't feel like anything. The losses don't hurt.

Hoping my years of church as a child balance my upcoming actions (about to unironically add vibraslap to a SotW track).

I have wrought my own downfall: MuseScore has weird bugs and after the piece repeats, there's a phantom vibraslap note before the B section, where the instrument first appears. Something something ancient Greeks and hubris.

Today's nostalgia-spelunking reminds me that I'd planned to learn Irish well before meeting a particular person in July '99. Huh. It's on the (archived) web, so it must be true.

Does anyone know the best way to search for a particular GeoCities page? (My old one.) I have these hazy memories of what's on my page, somewhere in TimesSquare. I don't remember the URL. But just like, a few things I was into, words, fragments, etc. Things I'd like to grep. Is there a way to text-search this? A lot of archives I found let you click on neighbourhoods, but I can't find it that way.

Just wanted to add that I know the URLs of every site I've ever had except for this. It's a snapshot of me in grade ten/eleven, something of a transitional time for me. I've been hunting for it for ages. It's my white whale.

This looks so cool and I want one. However, I have a sinking feeling they're going to get bought and killed by some FAANG before they can ship anything "later this year".

@atomdmac it's usually the simplest, dumbest explanation
