My twice-monthly subscription from Ontario's Social Coffee ( https://socialcoffee.com/ ) arrived today. One of the best decisions I've made with CoffeeGeek was switching from Pilot Coffee, who were declining in quality, to Social Coffee as the primary coffee we use at CoffeeGeek for all our product testing.
They provide consistency, at a very high sustained quality. Their People's Daily blend remains one of the best "this is what espresso should taste like" espresso blends I've enjoyed. More on how we test for espresso:
We do pay for this subscription - this is not a paid advertisement - but I wanted to share this with the fediverse coffee community in Canada, if you're looking for a roaster to try. Even their decaf is spot on (I get one bag a month of that - it's the blue one in the box).

Is there a particular roast / blend that is better suited for #ColdBrew ? My go to is Yeti from #PeaceCoffee. Preferred method is using the Toady setup. I use the brew guide per Peace Coffee’s website and it’s has been consistently excellent.

I recall someone posting that a good way to think about some uses of ‘AI’ is to rephrase it as: ‘Look at what my unpaid intern made for me’ 😞

Got my hands on a Turin SK40, can anyone recommend a starting setting to start dialing in a light roast. Timemore CS3 is 7 clicks for most. Thanks in advance.

Mine arrived preset to 4, did a quick test and adjusted 4.25 without RDT it ran a bit long, but still pleasant to drink using #CafelatRobot to pull the shot. I learned the hard way not to grind directly into the filter basket and working the bellows like a medieval blacksmith, there’s a reason the included catch cup is so tall 😅. First impression: very good, definitely will need RDT in every batch, I was spoiled by less than .3g of retention on #Timemore CS3
You know how the nerds of coffee love using those white porcelain matcha tea bowls for doing their single dose coffee measurements and pours? I've never liked those bowls, which kind of look like mini bedpans (see 2nd photo). So I sourced these awesome Japanese style ceramic bowls with a special cast iron rough glaze. They are fantastic. I wish I had bought more than 2.
@killyourfm
Just pulled this shot and got nostalgic for coffee and linux, you and @schykle made such a great team. I don’t know when I would have time to do this, but it appears that coffeeandlinux domain is available, might pick that up and make it my brain dump for new found obsessions :)
@coffee@coffeegeek I finally got around to cleaning my Timemore C3 Pro, let’s just say it’s been months. I use it daily and was expecting it to be a mess, but it was super easy and there was barely any oils or residue. Got me thinking about what actually takes place when a grinder is ‘seasoned’ is something more important if you have electric grinder or flat burrs?
@johnlehet@coffee@coffeegeek
Makes sense. I mostly use light roast as well. I think the other reason I was surprised was because my previous grinder had ceramic burrs (what a mess that was)
@pluralistic I purchased your 18 books on Humble Bundle 🙂 I'll starting reading them in the next weeks. I also read your Information Doesn't Want To Be Free and I liked it so much, and one of my friend is your fan 🙂 I've known of you from him. Thanks a lot. #book#humblebundle#reading#CoryDoctorow

I’ve started my Doctorow journey with Red Team Blues and now I am hooked. So glad I got the Humble Bundle, will get the Bezzele as an audio book 😊

For some reason I kept thinking of Myra Grant’s Feed Series while reading Lost Cause. Something about the first person narrative that jolted me back to the earlier parts of the series.

Would appreciate any and all advice with improving tap water that is extremely hard (softener is at the source is not an option), currently I am just passing it through a Britta filter. before Aeropress or lever machine espressos.
@coffee@espresso
My second attempt at an #affogato . This time with old-fashioned vanilla from Tillamook. 18g dose 44g out 35s, Timemore C3 Pro 7 clicks. I did use my go to roaster’s #decaf Peach Coffee Morning Glory. Also, transferred the shot from a cup into a cortado glass with one scoop of ice cream as pictured. Might ask my junior barista to take photos next time as they didn’t come out as well as I hoped. Made with Rodney Copper Bottom aka #CafelatRobot
@coffeegeek@coffee
Well done. I remember reading this last year, but went ahead and reread and it flows really well. Looking forward to more single dose grinder content ;) not as some mornings I favor the Aeropress simply because I’m too tired to hand grind for a double espresso.
