“In Caperton v. A.T. Massey Coal Co., from 2009, the court held that a state supreme court justice was constitutionally disqualified from a case in which the president of a corporation appearing before him had helped to get him elected by spending $3 million promoting his campaign.”
@kegill Americal will use literally anything to avoid the metric system
(even better, I'm a weather spotter. We actually have a standardized list of objects, most of which are sports balls of some kind, to describe hail sizes. Because something that is a uniform 2D cross section from all angles, and a regulation size, is very handy to reference)
“The former head of the #Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, allegedly threatened a chief prosecutor of the international criminal court in a series of secret meetings in which he tried to pressure her into abandoning a war crimes investigation, the Guardian can reveal.”
This is yet another reason why the government of #Israel does not represent all of #Judaism.
When The New York Times broke the story on May 16th that Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito had an upside-down American flag flying at his suburban DC home three days before President Joe Biden’s inauguration, my first question was “why now”?
In other words, what had happened to trigger this story, three years late?
We still don't know. But we do know that The Post sat on the story for more than three years.
“raw milk containing #H5N1 can remain infectious for weeks when stored at refrigerator temperatures”
Common sense substantiated by research, that.
Researchers also gave mice raw milk containing H5N1. The virus almost immediately began affecting them.
Euthanized on day four, and still:
“the mice had high levels of H5N1 bird flu virus in their respiratory tracts, as well their hearts, kidneys, spleens, livers, mammary glands, and brains.”
“Sixteen years ago, I was tasked with leading [Alito’s] confirmation process in the Bush White House.
“Let me be clear. I am deeply ashamed of my association with this wretched man and unfit justice. Along with Clarence Thomas, he is a totem and a towering one in this atrocious era of corruption, dishonesty and betrayal.”
Has anyone seen this #OpticalIllusion or know it’s source? Google images points to Twitter.
If you see a “red” Coke can, it’s apparently your brain at work. Zoom in. There appears to be no red ink, just an interesting blue and black on a white background.
The International Court of Justice has ordered Israel to stop its assault on Rafah. South Africa complained of genocide.
"The State of Israel shall, in conformity with its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide... Immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate…”
In Oregon, a citizen whistleblower turned to The Guardian to share recordings tying at least 66 candidates for local GOP leadership to the group organized by militant militia leader Ammon Bundy.
CENTRAL Oregon: Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties
Did the Oregonian turn it down? The NYT? WaPo?
Or did the citizen turn to @theguardian_world_news because it regularly speaks-truth-to-power (unlike US media)?
That’s the Clarence Thomas view on laws that demand equal treatment regardless of race, color, creed or gender.
Elections matter. Trump, elected by minority vote, packed the court with the guidance of Mitch McConnell. Those two conspired to ensure voting minorities continue to roll over voter majorities.
Senate D represent 36% more people than Rs, with 2% more votes, and thus control #scotus.
Another Boeing airplane (777 this time) exhibited a sudden altitude drop during turbulence over SE Asia. One passenger with a heart condition died; seven are in critical condition.
In March, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner lost elevation on a flight from Oz to NZ. Reportedly an uncovered cockpit switch was involved. Boeing “recommended that airlines inspect the cockpit seats the next time they perform maintenance on their 787s”.”
