A Mississauga factory is using a known carcinogen. Residents had no idea | The Narwhal (thenarwhal.ca)

The drive west along the 401 into Mississauga is lined with factories, box stores, furniture outlets and timber suppliers. It’s an industrial area, but also a commuters’ hub, where people from across the Greater Toronto Area come to gather at mosques, temples and weddings in splashed-out convention centres....

kent_eh,

Residents have no idea what materials and products are being used in any factory.

kent_eh,

Let’s just not be dishonest by suggesting that management obligations to maximize shareholder value is a “myth”. It is not.

Sure, in theory the shareholders could buy shares and insist that the company focus on something other than maximizing shareholder profit.

But in the real world, that’s so rare as to be effectively non-existent.

kent_eh,

The law specifically sets the fine at max $1000 per offence. The judge doesn’t have the authority to set higher fines.

AM radio law opposed by tech and auto industries is close to passing | Ars Technica (arstechnica.com)

A controversial bill that would require all new cars to be fitted with AM radios looks set to become a law in the near future. Yesterday, Senator Edward Markey (D-Mass) revealed that the “AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act” now has the support of 60 US Senators, as well as 246 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives, making...

but what happens if some event has already occurred which disabled large portions of the cellular network

As someone who has worked as a technician in both broadcast and cellular, I can absolutely confirm that cellular networks are a lot more fragile than any type of traditional broadcast, and that AM is much more robust than any other form of broadcast.

The transmitters are so much more simple devices, and are much easier to repair with limited resources than FM or television, should the need arise.

The world doesn’t need an EV Mustang or $99K F150, it needs an EV Focus or Escort oor Fiesta level car that normal people can afford.

Now look at how much the executives are being paid in the US compared to the cost of the vehicles…

It ain’t the welders and wrench turners who are adding the most to the cost of vehicles.

kent_eh,

I haven’t set foot in one for many years.

kent_eh,

The unpleasant experience is one of the main reasons I haven’t shopped there in many years.

kent_eh,

This has always been the case with the right wing. They believe that wealthy white straight cismen are the perfect expression of humanity, and everyone who deviates from that mold should be punished.

Wasn’t there a German guy back in the 1930s who advocated for similar ideas…

kent_eh,

Regardless of how the police handled it, this is the end result of the criminals’ actions. Had they not chosen to steal from the store, and chosen to drive incredibly dangerously in an attempt to avoid punishment for that theft, none of this would have happened.

The majority of the blame goes to the person who set this entire chain of events in motion.

Investors love job losses

Once again confirming how sociopathic the stock market can be.

kent_eh,

Maybe the stations require more maintenance than they anticipated?

That seems to be the case with many of the brands of public charging stations.

There are often more plugs out of service or operating at lower than rated capacity than there are fully working ones.

kent_eh,

And the judge acknowledged that point in his statement. Pointed out that other types of violations allow the guilty party’s wealth to be taken into account, but this charge doesn’t. Also pointed out that ignoring this sentence and doing future violations are mush more likely to lead to jail time.

.

Despite Trump’s whining about everything being unfair to him, and the public saying this is a slap on the wrist, the judge is taking the legally appropriate and legally required steps.

kent_eh,

I’m sure he’s shaking in his boots.

Seething with anger, more likely.

kent_eh,

And Limbaugh opened the door for Hannity, Alex Jones, and the rest of the Faux News screaming liars.

kent_eh,

They represent the values of the people who vote for them

Given how low the voting turnout has been in the last decade or 2, that is far from a majority of the population.

kent_eh,

What they’re saying to me is they DGAF about how the city/state/country is run.

kent_eh,

Based on the experience in my city, predictable and reliable service would go a long way toward more people using the bus.

As would routing/scheduling that gets people where they want to go without it taking 3x the time a car trip would take.

kent_eh,

At one point in history, international students were only allowed to work on-campus and only for a limited of hours.

The assumption was that they are here on a student visa specifically to learn, not to be employed.

kent_eh,

If it has been trained using questionable sources, or if it’s training data includes sarcastic responses (without understanding that context), it isn’t hard to imagine how confidently wrong some of the responses could be.

kent_eh,

Trains make a lot of sense for cargo moving ascoss more than 1-2 provinces/states, and shoukd be the first choice for that.

But for stuff moving only a couple hundred kilometers or less, and to all the places where there aren’t rails, you still need trucks.

kent_eh,

Education is the best investment a democracy can make.

Which explains why one candidate was saying “I love the poorly educated”.

kent_eh,

The internet has allowed greater collaboration, and the faster spread of information.

It has also allowed the village idiots to find each other and band together…

South Dakota governor, a potential Trump running mate, writes in new book about killing her dog (apnews.com)

The Guardian obtained a copy of Noem’s soon-to-be released book, “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward.” In it, she tells the story of the ill-fated Cricket, a 14-month-old wirehaired pointer she was training for pheasant hunting....

kent_eh,

The point is to show she can intentionally and decisively be cruel and mean, especially to an animal under her custody.

Combine that with Trump labeling groups he doesn’t like as a bunch of animals and it gets even scarier to think that they might join forces.

kent_eh,

Those content restrictions aren’t because youtube itself has any moral objections, it’s a combination of what the law allows (see COPA related fines changing content rules) and what (most) big budget advertisers are willing to appear beside.

The previous "adpocalypse"s have shaped a large portion of youtube’s content policies.

Any other platform hoping to take market share from youtube will have to deal with the same pressures if they expect to pay their bills once the VC money runs out.
