Disarm the poors! Only our oppressors should have the option of lethal self-defense!

Conservatives Have Lost the Culture War (washingtonmonthly.com)

Republican politicians like Ron DeSantis may rail against “woke” corporations. The reality is that when companies like Nike and Disney—no progressive angels themselves—seem to align with the left by promoting anti-racism and LGBTQ causes, they are catering to the tolerant demographic that matters most to the bottom line....

kool_newt,

Winning the culture war doesn’t matter one whit if we let a fascist in power. Too many of those young less religious people don’t vote and any culture they have will be deleted.

kool_newt,

Half of us are being dragged, the other half is pulling us. It’s illegal for the ones being dragged to protect themselves from the ones pulling us as we live in a state.

Then there’s the leftist non-voters who seem to think that if you don’t choose Republican or Democrat we default to peaceful communism.

Is he not aware he’s gonna be gassed with the other browns?

The job of police officer attracts psychopaths and sadists.

kool_newt,

To be fair, there shouldn’t be a “window of affordability”, that is a symptom of an ill society. Our ability to acquire shelter, one of the most basic of needs is being stolen from us.

If the capitalists (the psychopathic hoarder class) do it with our homes, you better bet they’d do it with air if they could and watch those that “missed the window of air affordability” suffocate and die.

It’s our duty to put a stop to them, there’s nearly 8 billion of us and their numbers are a rounding error yet we let them drag us over the waterfall. How? They invented something called “the state” and use another invention called “money”, which when combined with marketing allows them to be able to pay others to back them up. This fact is why police are bad people at the most fundamental level.

kool_newt,

These are better ideas than I hear coming from anyone actually in government.

kool_newt,

Yep, there needs to be real consequences. In addition, no member of that board or executive team should be able to act in those positions in any company for like 5 yrs.

kool_newt,

This is a true general statement about the existence of Google.

kool_newt,

Because it’s not currently profitable in most cases. Capitalism ensures that the merit of an idea comes secondary to it’s profitability. We don’t get the best things, we get the profitable things.

kool_newt,

If women helped each other kill their rapists, the world would be a better place real soon.

Thinking about how the U.S. should have a constitutional amendment banning state forces (e.g. police) from being used in labor disputes.

One of the primary purposes of the police is to be able to break labor uprisings. This is so wrong and should be prevented in the strongest way possible. What do you all think? Is the U.S. constitution able to restrict police?...

Revoking the SSH Keys of a Friend Sucks

I’m just going to be vulnerable for a minute here. I met the first person in real life who had similar server-y linux-y obsessions to me and we’d send eBay links of systems to drool over to eachother. They ended up being a terrible person but hid it from me pretty well until they couldn’t anymore and now I no longer have...

kool_newt,

Your public key is no longer in my ~/.ssh/authorized_keys :(

That’s a serious breakup, can’t say I’ve even had anyone that close. Finding the right friends is like finding the right distro and it hurts when someone shows you an ugly part of them (ahem Red Hat).

NEW CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

No person shall hold an elected or appointed position past the age of 10 years younger than average life expectancy, to be updated each census year. A special election is held to replace the person when this age is reached in the case of elected office. A new appointment required in 30 days for appointed positions.

kool_newt,

I find myself to be a stereotypical Lemmy user. I’m trans, (anarcho-) communist, a programmer and Linux engineer.

I’m older, I transitioned (ugh I hate that word) about 2 decades ago. I got into computers consciously and very intentionally. I knew I’d need to support myself soon and spent a good amount of time thinking what industries or companies might be willing to hire someone like me (this was even before trans people had employment rights in California!). I chose computers because I felt like it was an industry where someone might hire me, I could make enough to survive and pay for surgery, and because it seemed one where my co-workers would be less likely to beat me up or kill me.

When it comes to communism, I have a hunch that being trans forces you to think about society and why you are not accepted, who is causing your troubles and why. It seems apparent why someone so low on the social acceptance ladder as a trans person would be repelled by exploitation based zero-sum systems and attracted to systems that would allow them to survive and thrive.

Linux seemed just fundamentally awesome to me. You mean people could just choose to get together, coordinate, and build one of the most complex things to exist on the planet and give it away for free? Sign me up! I think Lemmy and the Fediverse are attractive for similar reasons.

Google is working on essentially putting DRM on the web (github.com)

The much maligned “Trusted Computing” idea requires that the party you are supposed to trust deserves to be trusted, and Google is DEFINITELY NOT worthy of being trusted, this is a naked power grab to destroy the open web for Google’s ad profits no matter the consequences, this would put heavy surveillance in Google’s...

kool_newt,

I’m working on essentially removing Google from my life.

kool_newt,

All this enshittification lately really inspires me to de-google.
