The topic of first concerts we saw came up today and I was floored to realize that today is the thirtieth anniversary of my seeing Pink Floyd in concert at the Big O (Olympic stadium) in Montreal.

What a band to see live. And really set expectations way too high for other concerts.

What was your first concert?

mariellequinton,
@mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

@ottaross @WTL Hmm. My first concert was Sharon, Lois, and Bram. I even made my mom stand in line after the concert to meet them. I'm guessing first concerts memories are somewhat selective 😝

My brain just puts the n in whenever I read "a historic" I'm not even sure which way I say it. Obviously the n is not necessary as we pronounce the h here, so I think I, at least sometimes, say "a historic" but my brain 100% thinks it should be written "an historic" and just subs it right in so I read it as "an historic" regardless of how it's written.

I do not love that a lot of the same driving mentality permeates how people move around on crowded MUPs in If you were in the group of bros loudly ringing your bells in unison to get people walking to move right off the path so you all could blast through the middle so fast I could almost feel you on my left shoulder, well I’ll tell you to fuck off in person when you’re stopped next time too. Slow the hell down and wait a singular minute once in a while

@stephanie @WTL @human3500 @grivettcarnac "On your left" ends being confusing for small kids. They hear "left" and think they're being told to go left and step into the left lane. Can't tell you how many times I've had to pull a toddler away from a bike because of this. Personally, I'd rather hear a bell than have someone yell at me.

At the beginning of April I found the perfect mother's Day gift for me. It was in Etsy and was made and shipped from Ukraine. They estimated it would take two weeks to get here, but this seemed optimistic to me. I sent the link with the clear instructions that I wanted it for mother's Day and that it was from Ukraine so it would take a bit to get here. It was more than a month before mother's Day so I figured out would be ok. Mother's Day rolls and around and there's no present 🙄 they hadn't even ordered it 🤬. So they ordered it then. I just got it! I can't believe it only took 1.5 weeks via mail from Ukraine. Mail service is really amazing. Ukrainians are also amazing. Household males less so. Happy Mother's Day to me.

@angiebaby To be fair to whom?

mariellequinton,
@mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

Apparently it shipped on Wednesday. I got it in my mailbox the next Wednesday. From Ukraine. Through a war. Fully tracked. Ukrainians are amazing, but also postal services are great.

Wee bit sad as we're finally removing the kids' sandbox. It's like 14 years old and has held up remarkably well for something we built. But the kids are too old. Swing set should also be removed, it's just much trickier. That too had held up well. One of the neighbours was getting rid of it because they were moving and gave it to us so a a bunch of neighbours got together to move it into our yard around that time.

@NuanceRhymesWithOrange Haha we have the Lego my parents saved from when we were kids! Lego from the 70s and 80s holds up well. All mixed in with Lego from all the decades since 😝

I often get food related hives in the summer (I don't know why, this started with my second pregnancy and that was more than 10 years ago, but wow whatever I ate a few days ago gave me huge hives/rash. Something from a bakery on mother's Day, I think. Ugh.

Urg. Fireworks. Gah. People are real jerks.

mariellequinton,
@mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

@johnefrancis They seem to set them off regularly all summer. The police, which are normally parked nearby, don't seem to care. And bylaw certainly doesn't. City councilor just said it got worse during the pandemic because people were bored and thus it's temporary. It's not getting better, however, because no one ever gets in trouble. They are, of course, setting them off in the park, which is always illegal.

mariellequinton,
@mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

But you can set them off on Canada Day and the day before and after Canada Day in Ottawa https://ottawa.ca/en/3-1-1/report-or-request/noise/discharge-fireworks

Is there a fediverse used market place? I really hate having to deal with FB, EB, or local classified websites that are overloaded with ads. Ugh. Buying used is getting more and more unpleasant.

Hmm... Is that normal? Huge raccoon is broad daylight at our neighbour's 😳

mariellequinton,
@mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

@stephanie You do see them out occasionally during the day, often someone is fiddling in their shed or something and disturbs them. Sometimes, especially with babies, they have to move nests or something. When you do see them, you wonder how such chonky animals manage to hide from us so well!

Yoghurt making started this morning.

Our little 8-container yoghurt incubator works well for the Canadian bagged-milk situation. When I have one container left, I heat up a single bag's volume of milk (1.3 L) then let it cool. That volume plus the last container dumped in to inoculate the batch makes exactly 8 full containers again. A continuous loop.

mariellequinton,
@mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

@ottaross I think yogourt is the most Canadian spelling, in that no one else uses it. I default to that.

mariellequinton,
@mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

@ottaross Yogourt is very Canadian because it's both English and French (while not being used in either England or France 😝). I think the "h" is generally used in Commonwealth countries, and like the "u", not in the US.

mariellequinton,
@mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

@ottaross That's the France French version. I'm sure they absolutely reject the Canadian French version 😝, as I'm sure French Canadians are fine with both just like English Canadians use multiple spellings 😝. A Canadian spelling to unite Canadians and confuse the rest of the world 😜
