I’ve been struggling to spend much time on Mastodon lately because my feed is >50% discussion of Bluesky

Seeing them makes me feel a terrible cocktail of:

  • FOMO for not having an invite
  • Confusion over why everyone cares so much all of a sudden
  • Fear that the wonderful community I’ve found here on Masto in the last 6 months will die because everyone will leave
  • Existential dread over the immense difficulty of managing a community-governed social media platform

It’s been tough 😖

I felt so much love for Mastodon not even because of the features, or the specific accounts, or even the underlying Fedi philosophy (although I do like all of those things)

I fell in love with Mastodon because as a neurodivergent awkward human who never fit in in mainstream spaces I logged in and saw, for the first time, an entire platform filled with misfits like myself.

Mastodon is why I opened up about my ADHD and social difficulties

I don’t want to lose that.

I’m deeply scared that if Mastodon becomes an empty graveyard of abandoned accounts I will have to mask again

I don’t want to mask again. Professionally or personally

I’ve never been more comfortable in my own skin or so successful professionally

I’ve never had such an easy time meeting new people or making new friends

All because Mastodon showed me how many successful people were also neurodivergent weirdos like me.

That I could be myself and live a good life. And that being me was good.

@GreenFire I don’t get why the conversation about Bluesky has been so active on here in particular. I see more discussions about it on Mastodon than on LinkedIn, Reddit, or Instagram 🤷‍♀️

My husband and I were just talking about him last night and how much this one horrible individual has harmed the entire country and a lot of the world.
