We've got this cheap egg cooker that plays the loudest, most terrifying alarm you've ever heard when it's done cooking. My wife requested that I make it "less aggressive" so I hacked it into the most gentle egg cooker of ALL TIME

(warning: probably loud)

Before shot: egg cooker finishing an egg before modification. Jarring alarm goes off, I say "fuck!" After shot: egg cooker finishes. A few moments later, a small mechanical music box next to the cooker starts playing Pachelbel's Canon

@MLE_online Ah... i see. You have friends who come over to eat with you. ;)

[edit: OOOH there's a hello-kitty version of yours now. https://www.zojirushi.com/app/product/nsrpc10kt ]

@MLE_online

I have a roughly 30 year old version of this one https://www.zojirushi.com/app/product/nslgc

I think the only thing that's changed on this model is the tint of the metal. ;)

I love it so much, but I will admit to being tempted by the unnecessarily awesome $$$ ones they have. Alas, i was tempted by a CNC more, so that's not going to happen. ;)

@MLE_online oh.

Yeah, that's a good use too. I tend to make large quantites of rice when making batches of dog food, but I'm so used to doing it with my wee 3 cup one that I forget i could just get a bigger one.

Last night i left a little rant about how 's lack of explanations for anything made it impossible to derive when or why you'd use some observable rules AND that it made it impossible to know if it the sentence was correct or an AI generated fuck-up.

It was Perfect fodder for "reply guys", but instead 2 folks showed why i love They stepped up helped. One dug out a helpful link, another explained things in detail that took time.

Thanks Esperanto folks. πŸ™‡β€β™€οΈ

@number6 Yeah, i've got lots of resources where i can get help. There's a subreddit and a stack exchange for Esperanto & probably many mailing lists and other things. There's even an esperanto mastodon host ( https://esperanto.masto.host )

My concern is more that it's not JUST missing key information, but that I ALSO don't trust that it's giving me valid examples anymore. Without the grammar material i have no way to confirm or deny any of my suspicions without going elsewhere.

Stop looking in my direction w/e anyone says β€œfat fingering” at work challenge 2024

masukomi,
@masukomi@connectified.com avatar

@Sorl @Binder it's a pretty common term amongst USian geeks.

Also, I literally don't know anyone who doesn't magically loose half of their typing skill the moment someone is watching their screen.

Although in practice "fat fingering" generally refers to someone making an innocent typo into a form or accidentally clicking a nearby button. Stuff like that.

I've just pushed a bunch of #accessibility changes for screen readers to the main branch of FediThready. ( It makes long texts into post sized chunks)

I've run through it with #VoiceOver and it seems ok. HOWEVER it all feels like it's "usable" instead of "good".

If there's a #a11y geek out there who uses screen readers regularly I would REALLY appreciate some suggestions on how to make this actually feel good for folks who rely on screen readers.

I am a naturally loud person. Not just volume, though, I am usually either talking to myself, to the dogs, singing something, or having echolalia with a nearby appliance.

On the occasions where I become aware of the fact that I am currently being loud my mind always harkens back to a moment in The Crying Game where Forest Whitaker is telling the story of the scorpion and the frog. The last line is β€œI can’t hept it. It’s in my nature.”

Sidenote: holy shit The Crying Game is an amazing movie. Great writing. Great casting. Great acting. Great directing.

It’s been ages since I’ve seen it, but so many parts of it live rent free in my mind.

Side side note: it what is nominated for six Oscars and won one for Best Writing.

It also won 21 other awards .

You should definitely see it. Just know that it is not a light film.

TIL that Herman Miller has made a "for-realzies" gaming chair. As opposed to the β€œlet's change the color of the Embody” and call it a gaming chair.

Wifey & think of ergonomics as a form of insurance. Invest in the good stuff now, so that you don't need to see a doctor later.

Our Embody chairs have absolutely proven their worth over the years.

TIL you can set a "Social preview" for your repo.

It's under settings, and setting one should make the preview of your repo not be completely useless when you link to it on sites like this.

Let's try it out...

[edit...uh. I'm just seeing the normal default preview. Please fill in poll in reply]

this post is a reply to a post with a link to a repo.

That repo has a "Social Preview" image set.

Do you see the default GitHub repo preview there or a screenshot of an app?
