Software/Hardware/Nonsense

#AndroidDev, #KotlinMultiplatform by day, but I don't talk about it as much.

Very into #MusicTech, used to work as an #AudioEngineer

Here you'll find lots of #electronics / #embedded work. Love to design new products as well as modify existing ones. Everything is open source, and I try to share my process on YouTube. Like using #CircuitPython as much as possible, but also reach for #Arduino and native SDKs from time to time.

Also a very tired new dad.

Still unpacking from Open Hardware Summit (both brain-wise and clothing-wise). I had an impossible amount of fun and was so glad to meet so many of you IRL.

If you missed it, here's my talk:

@MLE_online about a third in and I absolutely love it. I have a feeling that the review will change by the end.

This is my entry for the Boston Stupid Shit Nobody Needs & Terrible Ideas hackathon.

The game is actually modified! I jammed libcurl into the chocolate doom source port and wrote a little python server to generate qr codes and handle the payment info.

I gotta say the mastodon web UI looking/feeling really good to me these days!

I understand the criticisms, but I really, really, miss quote reposts over here. Sharing something with context feels like a fundamental social media feature.

If I ever find myself in charge of a conference, I'm docking 30 seconds of each presenter's talk and forcing them to choose a walk-up song

@gsuberland Finally remembered to grab some low temp solder paste! Capacitor stock is stable atm, haven't done a real repair in a long time.

I'm working on a talk and would love your opinion if you are a maker of any kind:

What is a prototype?

What are your primary concerns when working on a prototype? (especially vs. something going to "production")

Open to any off-the-cuff answers or more official definitions if such things exist.

These M5Stack C6Nano boards are so friggin cute. Esp-32 C6, 2 LEDs, nice clicky button, IR, and a couple IO. Pretty limited but if you got something you need networked with little room to spare...

Bought a cheap little USB touchscreen and learned the only(?) option for drivers on Mac costs $150 PER MACHINE. Made a little USB converter with a $1 microcontroller (RP2040) that remaps the touchscreen output to standard mouse/keyboard events understood by any computer.

🧵

7" cpacitive touchscreen showing my spotify home page. I start, stop, and skip the music, and click through multiple pages. The camera pans and I show an Adafruit RP2040 Feather USB Host board plugged in via USB.

In 2018, long before the the LLM boom, I made a prototype for a revolutionary health-tech product: WebMG

It calculated how likely you were to survive an episode of Grey's Anatomy based on a description of your symptoms.

Having fun with a project that uses USB cameras. Doing some DIY HDR to deal with uneven lighting. I learned that:

A) If your webcam is a standard UVC (USB video class) cam, it may expose params that you can change (exposure, white balance, focus etc). Even the really cheap ones!

B) (of course) there's an imagemagick command to average a bunch of shots into one.

I wrote a script to set the exposure to three different settings, taking a photo after each. Look at the lamp, mantle and cabinet.

@Craigp yeah! My pixel does it (along with a bunch of other crazy stuff) and often I wish it would dial it back. Nice to do it manually!

The Boston Stupid Shit No One Needs & Terrible Ideas Hackathon is back!! (ok it was back last year but I had to miss).

If you're in the area, would love to see you there - I've had a blast at past events. It's like 'The Purge' for the gremlins in my brain that yeet ridiculous ideas into my consciousness.

A fun UX I've been playing with for a project: If you scan this QR code, a small .png file will be downloaded to your device (SFW, I promise).

The kicker is that file is not hosted on any server, anywhere. It lives completely within the QR code itself! 🧵

@gvy_dvpont@mastodon.social avatar

@bleeptrack ok I was actually thinking of you with this because it's actually a sub-project of something that's like your travelling plotter - will have an interactive device out at events, and will want to share creations with passersby in real time
