Why the metric system? Because descriptions like this make no sense, IMHO:

“In all, 3m acre-feet of water is expected to be conserved over the next three years – an acre-foot is 326,000 gallons, or enough water to cover an acre of land, about the size of a football field, one foot deep. A single acre-foot is enough to sustain two average California households for a year.”

First home made French fries, Belgian style of the summer season. Used Queen Anne potatoes, washed, rinsed, pre-fried at 140°C. With good Develey mayonnaise. Very good!

TL;DR the majority of people living in who were eligible and used their voting rights in have voted for Erdogan. This is disappointing to me. Source: https://twitter.com/Celik_Chn/status/1658127850501709826?s=20

    Kids from the local primary school regularly walk past my window holding hands in crocodile formation on the way to or from some activity. Today they're all wearing crowns 👑

    Cultural curiosity.

    If you choose to reply to the following questions, could you please also share where you're from?

    Do you ever say your native-language equivalent for "that's funny" when somebody cracks a joke or makes a funny remark? If you do, do you ever say it without laughing first?

    (Boosts appreciated.)

    mattb,
    @mattb@hachyderm.io avatar

    @xahteiwi UK (generic) here. No, would just laugh. Much more likely to groan or complain about a 'bad' joke, but this is taken in good humour and is part of the enjoyment.

    Kubernetes has somehow managed to make your load balancer API a single point of failure that can bring down your whole platform, remarkable feat

    mattb,
    @mattb@hachyderm.io avatar

    @xahteiwi Sounds like an interesting case study! What happened?

    mattb,
    @mattb@hachyderm.io avatar

    @xahteiwi You've got me thinking: in an application with lots of member churn, if the LB API is down you're eventually going to run out of active members as new ones can't be added to replace the old ones?

    mattb,
    @mattb@hachyderm.io avatar

    @xahteiwi As somebody whose day job is Kubernetes/OpenStack integration I'm in violent agreement with you on that point.

    You could probably fix this for LoadBalancers, btw. But in general, k8s workloads are fine in the absence of the control plane as long as they're static. We could fix it for LBs, but the same problem's still there for pods, storage, etc. If apiserver is down you can't even create the churn to create the LB problem.

    mattb,
    @mattb@hachyderm.io avatar

    @xahteiwi Coincidentally came across this today: https://github.com/kubernetes/cloud-provider-openstack/issues/2148

    With this in place (we don't do it in OpenStack yet, but other LBs are available) I think the churn would have stopped if the LB was unavailable. Essentially newly created pods would never be marked ready by the LB controller, so the old ones wouldn't be replaced.

    mattb,
    @mattb@hachyderm.io avatar

    @xahteiwi loadbalancerIP is usually set by the LB service controller, btw. i.e. It's usually status rather than spec. Yeah, it's a wart. I doubt we have good support for specifying it in advance because you need OpenStack admin privilege to request a specific floating IP, but k8s typically only has tenant privileges.

    Haven't looked at externalIP in detail, tbh, so I can't comment on that.
