@lewdmachines @mmasnick.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy a reasonable concern. they are a PBC, but that's still a "C". But, they do seem to be building in full protections to prevent against enshittification by enabling exits, and the ability to interact with AT Proto without having to use Bsky itself.

Also, I do believe they have a few fairly reasonable, non-shitty, monetization plans in mind.

I just adore how the techbro media has started using "activist investor" in the same way christian fascists used to complain about "activist judges" (though they don't seem to be so incensed about judges ruled by some bullshit ideologies).

The important thing here is that "activist" be associated with "bad people who want to ruin things".

Last friday, I have received a takedown request from a company representing Apple, requesting I remove a parody account that is Apple on my instance.
They are claiming that it attempts to "mislead users into believing that the account is sponsored by or affiliated with Apple when that is not the case".

I am convinced that the account was legally in the right as it was very obvious that it is a parody account, but unfortunately I am powerless against a gigacorporation in court as they could just financially ruin me if they feel like it.

Therefore, I would like to warn everyone NOT to create Apple parody accounts using Apple's logo and word mark on your instances, as this would be violating Apple's intellectual property and would waste the time and money of the law firm that actively scours the internet for these types of accounts! ​:neocat_o_o:​

Hey @mmasnick . Became aware of another study alleging that social media is destroying the minds of teenagers. Going to try and dive deeper into the numbers given that the selling points aren't adding up, but thought I'd pass the study along to you for you to pick through as well: https://www.unesco.org/en/articles/new-unesco-report-warns-social-media-affects-girls-well-being-learning-and-career-choices

Given the enormous amount of research that says otherwise, I'm quite skeptical of the findings in this study already.

@freezenet what a weird report. it has pages and pages of "there's a digital divide, girls need more access to tech" and then switches to "and access to tech is uniquely damaging to girls."

And it does no new work on this particular issue, just badly mischaracterizes some of the existing research.

Mass Priorities is funded by a lobbying group called the Domestic Policy Caucus, which, as reported by @mmasnick for Techdirt, is covertly funded by telecommunications companies, who in many places have a de facto monopoly on broadband internet service.
