Much of the culture war is simply that a large number of Americans still think it's morally acceptable to be bigoted against gay or trans people. If you changed "LGBTQ characters" in that first paragraph to "black characters" or "Jewish characters," the conversation about these parents would look dramatically different. But it's not clear why we should socially treat being anti-gay different from being anti-black or antisemitic.
We don't have to imagine. They did this to Black people first. "Hair Love" is already on the list of banned books. It's "divisive" and "anti-white" because it's about a Black dad doing his Black daughter's hair.
I was even willing to concede on the 2016 numbers, that the percentage was less than 50% due to 3rd party candidates, but that was a BS stats trick to obscure the fact that more white women voted for Trump than for Biden.
🤡No! If we're going to get pedantic, let's get pedantic! I'm going to the dictionary!
And even if we don't go to the dictionary, you're talking about common usage of the word, Again this is the same thing as the questions around the word "delve," and is it commonly used.
Most people that speak english, live in Africa or Asia, not Europe. So how it is most commonly used and the dictionary definition both mean 51% to 99%.
"53% of white women voted for Trump. 46% voted for Biden. Who did most white women vote for?"
A) Trump
B) Biden
C) Neither
D) I want to keep being weird in Black people's mentions on the internet, so I'm going to make up a weird definition of the word "most," just for this question!🤡
I hear you on the encouragement thing, but no. Not for me.
I'm not here to encourage any white person to vote. If at this point you don't want to vote, I'm not here to cheerlead for you.
And if you have racist family members, I'm not here to tiptoe around that so you feel good about yourself. It's not an insult to point it out. Those of you with racist family members, know that you have racist family members.
On the "convert" or "turnout" question, that one's easy. Turnout, 100%.
I donate to Debra Cleaver and she does voter turnout, at scale, in a race blind, gender blind, political party blind way. That results in a net shift towards Dems, because if we have 100% turnout Dems win.
But Debra doesn't target and say "White people that aren't fascists should vote more than white people that are fascists." That's not her role. She registers everyone.
The job of encouraging white folk who aren't fascists to turnout more than those who are? Should be on community.
No. Black people have been "voting for the greater good" for the past 80 years. 80 years! And we're still doing it! And we're already at ~90%. We did our work. Now go do yours. Leave us alone.
As I've said, 80% is what you're getting from Black men. 85% if we're feeling generous.
This is like the only kid who's failing the class, telling the only kid who has an A-, to "study harder and not be such a lazy dumbass." Get out of here with that mess.
I know a lot of people are hoping for dirt cheap EVs, but I'm excited about the ones like this that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars just as much. BTW, Chevy's model Y competitor will be at dealerships soon.
Either way, the most important thing to do, is to ignore, insult, argue with, and generally disrespect, Black men online! 🤡 Find a Black man, and yell "Trump is worse!" in his face as hard as you can! Swear at him, and threaten him with violence!
If you got upset at me for pointing out that more people died of Covid under Biden than Trump, in large part because Biden rolled back common sense restrictions that were in place under Trump...
Then you'll hate me pointing out that Trump introduced a 25% tariff on Chinese EVs, and Biden is upping that to 100% tariff.
People often talk about "historical" injustices and genocide in the US. It's not history. It's now.
When you look at this chart showing that the most common age of Black folk is 27 and the most common age for white folk is 58, know that the Black birth rate is higher than the white birthrate. What do you think happens to all those Black people? Not historically. I'm talking about today, in 2024? That's 10s of millions of people.
People genuinely expect Black people to look past their own mistreatment, to help them criticize China.
You frame my pointing out that the US treats Black people worse than Uyghurs on every dimension ( number directly executed in the streets by the state, number in slave labor camps, life expectancy, poverty rate, infant mortality rates, etc), as "downplaying?"
