Every Black rapper has a political opinion. Every single one. But you only hear about the political opinions of the ones that support Trump. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Because that's what US news, which is tuned for white eyes, pushes.

Many white Dems and white GOP folk genuinely believe that Black folk only vote for Black folk, and that Black folk blindly vote for whoever a Black celebrity tells them to vote for. They're genuinely surprised when Black folk don't vote for Kanyes or Hershels or Tim Scotts. Every time.

@mekkaokereke Which is absurd, really, because there literally isn't a demographic in the USA that has more experience with picking the least awful of the available options, than Black voters, for as long as there have been Black voters here.

See, e.g., the re-election of John Lindsay as mayor of NYC in 1969.

Not linking directly because I don't want to shit on projects I believe are genuinely trying to make the web better, but every time I see a post about "the small web" or a more "humane" web or whatever that includes phrases like this about content: "created without the motivation of financial gain" I sigh so deeply lol

I am begging ethical web enthusiasts to understand what an extreme privilege it is to spend time working on something without worrying about money

There are only ~40 million Black people in the US. Population similar to Lagos state in Nigeria (the tiny red part).

There are ~250 million US white folk (~220 non-Hispanic white + ~30 million Hispanic white).

So Biden's "missing" 10% of Black men, is fewer than 2 million. Or less than 1% of white US population.🤡

White voters don't face the massive systemic voter suppression that Black voters do. So increasing white dem turnout is much easier.

So if your boy doesn't win, blame yourselves.

With all the planned threats to polling places coming from the (white) fascists I really take your point here. Voters of color - for legitimate reasons - will be more likely to stay away. I think Dems should concentrate on promoting mail-in voting in communities of color.

@mekkaokereke @Pineywoozle I had someone unfollow & block me just cos I said “stop harassing people for saying they’re not gonna vote” even though I clearly stated that I believed in voting, was going to vote, and I think it’s a good idea to vote.
And I get a “nope, unfollowed and blocked” and it wasn’t some incel.

Feminists taught me that Mad Max Fury Road is not a feminist movie. I get that.

Fury Road was just an action movie where the violent protagonist was a woman with a visible disability, instead of an able bodied man. I get that.

But I still enjoy the fact that George Miller looked at all the dudes that got angry that a woman was the star of a Mad Max movie, and said "Cry about it!" and doubled down.

I am so watching this.

@mekkaokereke I thought Fury Road was pretty feminist. It was all about how a society treated women like things so they tried to run away to escape. But then realized that running away wasn't an escape and instead returned to claim their place as valued members and leaders in society instead.

These thoughts remind me of "Alien," one of the great modern sci-fi films.

The protagonist, Ripley, was second or third (can't recall) in command, and a woman. No big deal was made of it, it was just the way it was. And it worked so perfectly.

(The second film, "Aliens," was more an action/adventure film rather than science fiction.)

The most ridiculous thing about US notions of decorum, is that people are expected to be silent when Black women are attacked.🤷🏿‍♂️

If a Black woman is attacked and no one says anything, it's allowed to slide. But if a Black woman is attacked and people say anything in response, either calmly and politely like AOC did, or with an in-kind response like Crockett did, then all the "neutral" parties come pouring out of the woodwork, worried about "decorum."

I have the strong impression that the people who are running the Democratic party are committing electoral malpractice on a number of different levels. I began to panic when they decided to dump the entirety of our legislative political capital on infrastructure instead of voting rights.

@mekkaokereke Detroit citizen (Rashida Talib's district). King Soloman Baptist Church is in gentrified Detroit. To say its on the west side is deceptive, its closer to the SW side of the city.

Furthermore, when a politician goes to Detroit and they want to talk to locals who wont call them out, they either go to these types of churches or go to the suburbs. Furthermore, Detroit was ground 0 when the financial crisis struck. Just because he found a bunch of uninformed clowns doesnt mean much.
