Just because we have not found aliens doesn't mean that they don't exist. As a result, just because we have not found space murder hornets, doesn't mean they don't exist!

EDIT: Space Murder Hornet would also be a good name for a band.

Been working so much on my "Snap Joints" for Marble Game, but eventually I need to go back. Each joint is its own Area3D which is only enabled when a player wants to snap things together. But to snap TO, ALL joints are made active. With hundreds of parts, that can quickly become thousands of joints.

I need to find a better way for this.

Today I finished a big feature on Marble Game that... may not make sense until you play it, but I want to share it anyway.

In Marble Game, parts are placed on a (configurable) grid, making positioning easy.

They also have "joints" you can grab and connect them to other parts.
However, depending on angle and position, this may knock the part off grid.

If you were then to grab the part, it may just snap to grid again - not the previously connected joint.

THIS IS NOW FIXED!

Finalized my conveyor colliders/meshes so they now won't freak out anymore when a large queue of marbles is lining up. I like it.

Now to make different height/width variations. I can't wait to see what players will do with them. :)

Ring Fit: You really shouldn't skip your warmup.

Me: That's fine, see I moved about while you were booting.

My shoulder: I'm gonna destroy this old man's entire weekend.

With Microsoft buying so many studios just to close some that I really liked, due to nothing but sheer incompetency on their part, for me they're now on the same rank as EA. Fuck that company.

The only thing I really don't like about Blender is that Z is up.

AND DON'T YOU DARE argue with me now. There are rules! We're human, not animals!
(no for real, I'm just being silly about something unimportant (even if it's objectively wrong))

People like to claim that the failure of the WiiU was because of its name, failing to distinguish it from the Wii.

Look, I WISH it was that simple. Because if it was, XBox Series 69 - or whatever these things are called now - would have bankrupted Microsoft a long time ago and we would now all live in a world without Microsoft which would be awesome.

Dear Blender beginners: Please don't start with the default cube when you make your model. That thing is in every Blender version. It's not hygienic!

Playing so much of Princess Peach: Showtime makes me realize that I enjoy the games of the Super Mario franchise the most that do not feature Mario as the protagonist.

2D Mario peaked with 3 and 3D Mario peaked with Galaxy. After that... eh... I mean Mario 3D World and Odyssey were amazing, but I still strongly prefer Showtime or the Luigis Mansion games.

When people argue about the best 2D Mario it's usually a close call between Super Mario 3 (SM3) and Super Mario World (SMW), with SMW typically winning. At least to my experience.

And, look, I get it. SMW is amazing and there's no point to argue about why something should NOT be your favorite thing.

But for me it'll always be SM3. The amount of variety in the levels, with each world having a distinct theme is something that SMW doesn't come close. Same goes for powerups.

Finding a GOOD Blender learning tutorial for the basics and modelling (you know something where you actually LEARN something and not just follow steps to make a donut with sprinkles) is really hard. But I am currently following this (see link below) and I am having a good feeling about that guy. :)

Unfortunately there is also a lot of shortcut work in this tutorial and while I get this is important, it's TERRIBLE for beginners.

Now that my PS2 is set up again... I begin to realize how much the cable on the controller annoys me. Which is weird because when I play N64, NES or Atari, I never mind - even if the cables are much shorter.

Finished replacing the CMOS battery of my Release Day PS2.

I was prepared for the repair to go bad. Too many fragile ribbon cables. And it would be okay. I had you since you were new. You've been a good boy. It's okay to not wake up anymore.

And realistically, emulating the games I still care about is also more convenient, right?

... well... the fucker still lives. Now I wish I had at least bothered to clean the fan while the thing was open...

I didn't care much for Doom 2016 to be honest. I get what it was trying to do, but it got old really fast. Doom: Eternal on the other hand hit the mark so well, it makes 2016 look like a cheap knockoff. And then the Ancient Gods DLC drove nuDoom to perfection.

My first solo game, DOKI DOKI GRAVITY DIVE is on sale on again for 80% off because I hate money.

Fun fact: There is just ONE scripted scene in the trailer. The shot of the black hole at 0:07 to 0.11. The rest is all unaltered gameplay. YES, even the lack of HUD. You can just turn it off in the game settings.

Been looking for Slaughterfest-like WADs for Heretic. Found a promising one - Hordes of Chaos - but it also uses Doom monsters and while it may sound silly, that does break my immersion a bit. Also if I wanted to kill Doom monsters, I could play Slaughterfest.

Each time I see the city levels of Doom 2 I can't help it... those things look terrible. And don't really play well either.

And no, that's not "a limitation of the Doom engine because old and primitive". Heretic was made in the same engine and its castle towns were light years ahead of Doom 2.

Procedurally generated marble track spiral.

Try and say that three times fast.

In between coding sessions I like to watch videos about the programming and mechanics of Doom. Gives a nice perspective on how simple even complex logic can be. And on top of that it makes you feel better since even a piece of programming art like Doom has bugs, terrible edge cases and oversights.

I have now given the player full control over procedural mesh generation and are now able to shape tracks however they like.

Validating if the mesh geometry makes sense is also present and aside from some minor polish, everything works as it should. :)

Do people still care enough about Soulslike games to be offended by me saying YES, these games should have easy modes? I played plenty games are defined by their difficulty. Take Bayonetta or Doom Eternal DLC as example. Both games had easy modes and they lost NOTHING because of it. In fact they were more fun! But that's mainly because unlike Soulslike games they aren't slow as fuck.

Alright, that's this weekend's hot take off my chest.

pro tip:
You can spend countless hours watching GDC talks or Youtube essays about "How to make a good/successful Indie game" or "This will change how you think about gamedev forever".

Or you do what you really want to do, have a lot more fun along the way (as well as more free time) and the same chances of being successful.

It's always the same with me:
I am profiling a piece of code and I can't figure out why execution times are so erratic, despite the work the function does, stays exactly the same. And then it hits me: My CPU is clocking up and down constantly in the background.

Daily reminder that in Jurassic Park where Grant tries to hold that door to keep the Raptors out and Lex goes "it's a UNIX system! I KNOW DIS!", the only reason there is any suspense in that scene is because of this extremely slow UI nightmare of a 3D file manager. Looks fancy, but entirely inefficient to use.

And that is how I always imagine the Metaverse to be.
