episodes of deadhead tv, an '80s public access show, now going up. episode 1 features greek theater '88 & our collective pal @dgans representing the minglewood town council. (haven't had a chance to watch yet, but went semi-looking for these for "heads" & excited they finally surfaced.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N53lBOjsY8

Does anyone know of a Pixelfed instance for small business types? I’m really motivated to sever ties with Insta for my minuscule side-hustle, but the few pf instances I’ve looked at had zero commerce…

(FWIW, I’ve gotten more business from my fediverse profile page than I’ve gotten from 2 years of infrequent Instagram posts…so not a huge loss to shut it down, but I still want to segment that kind of self promotion from this feed…)

@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar

@dwenius I want this as well and so does @Stoneycase among others. We'll figure out a way to make it happen if none exists.

hey fam, what is going on in the left channel here? Because it sure as shit sounds kind of like Keith is playing a theremin, but pitched too accurately for me to believe that. What is this? Some kind of weird Rhodes effect? @theheatwarps thoughts? It clearly resolves into glassy '73 Rhodes tone at the end

Anyway check it out, it's great regardless. Shoutout to the GD Discord for the find

@theheatwarps it was pretty interesting to see the Garcia synth track annotations I found for Mars Hotel sessions when doing some Jerrybase work, but that's a story for next year I guess

mrcompletely,
@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar
mrcompletely,
@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar

@theheatwarps the images of the session data sheets and tracking sheet are not ours to share, but my transcription of them can be seen across many of the dates here:

https://jerrybase.com/runs/957

a specific example is on 4.29 Loose Lucy. IIRC there are one or two more.

The other notable find was that Jerry did record a pedal steel track for Cucamonga that was not used. John McFee cut the album version, so presumably Garcia was unhappy with his rusty take and called in the session guy.

mrcompletely,
@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar

@theheatwarps these documents are entirely unambiguous fwiw, but are not narrative in any way. They are just a pile of discrete, dated facts. So I don't know that it answers any of your questions. I suspect they were just dicking around with new toys and seeing what worked as usual.

mrcompletely,
@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar

@theheatwarps it's pretty much just song title, track numbers, instrument, musician, and then separate documents with how many takes by who. Those have some notes like "nice" or stars and such. That's about it

@anne interesting! I read it on the surface as reducing her role to a style commentary. Especially since her actual role seems to have been to enable a Trump showcase. But my response is about the way it fits a pattern of commenting primarily on womens' appearance rather than accomplishment

Every now and then the French Revolution comes up from very serious people making a joke out of how great it was.

Folks. The changes the French Revolution may have eventually led to were perhaps good.

The means? JFC read a book. There's nothing about the means and the consequences during it anyone should want. None.

@philip_cardella absolutely. In this case you don't even need a book, a single mid length article or even the Wikipedia entry would likely do. It's the canonical case study in the acceleration of violence in revolutions

@aburtch early on that wasn't one of my favorite songs of his but his singing forced a reappraisal. It's remarkable. Now I can't get enough.

@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar

@aburtch yeah it's funny as a bluegrass fan that I'm not really into most of the pinched/nasal "high lonesome" vocal style. 🤷

Rowan's voice is somehow like Vassar's fiddle tone: rich and warm like honey

jensclasen, to random German
@jensclasen@mastodon.social avatar

The German word "Tüte" can mean:

  • paper bag
  • spliff, reefer

The word "Zug" can mean:

  • train
  • drag (smoke)
  • pull

So, the sentence "Der Mann mit der Tüte nahm einen Zug" can mean:

  • "The man with the bag took a train"

or

  • "The man with the doobie took a puff"

Enjoy our language!

mrcompletely,
@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar

@jensclasen so if one staged a photo with both of these things happening at the same time would some people get it as a wordplay joke or is it too abstract?
