naonintendois,

I’ve been walking up feeling terrible this past week. I thought I was catching a cold. But never had temp or exhaustion like I normally do with a cold.

naonintendois,

Php has gotten fairly advanced compared to what it used to be so it counts. Html doesn’t count since it’s a markup language not a programming language. You can’t control logic with it, but JavaScript does count.

naonintendois,

In no particular order: C C# C++ Perl (been a long time, would need a refresher) Python Rust (favorite) TCL (kill it with fire) JavaScript Typescript Java Kotlin X86 assembly Arm assembly Riscv assembly Bash (shell scripting in general) Dart

Might be some others I haven’t touched in while.

I also had the unfortunate experience of having to write windows batch scripts for a month. I can’t decide whether I hated TCL or batch more.

naonintendois,

Because the seals on the mask itself weren’t rated and they didn’t go through FDA authorization. You HAVE to go through FDA clearance if you want to claim your product meets medical standards.

naonintendois,

Straighten it out, then twist it into a spring around a screwdriver. Remove a spring from some component and put the original in my spare parts box.

naonintendois,

I protest voted one year because I hated the candidates. That was the year Trump got elected. I’m never doing that again. Lina’s well worth supporting in the next few elections, but the real options this year are already set. Everything else is equivalent to not voting at all.

naonintendois,

I highly doubt someone who’s struggling with a phone is going to do well with a screen projected on your hand that has very sensitive hand interaction requirements.

Anyone figure out what the fundamental difference between autistic and NT brains is?

We know that we behave and think differently. We generally have more difficulty with social situation and are hypersensitive to sensory input. But to me, these seem like impacts of a fundamental difference. For example, we have social difficulties in NT environments because something with our neurotype is different. What is that...

naonintendois,

I really like the idea of thoughts having inertia. It fits so well

naonintendois,

I’ve been to some places that have a 1 order rule before. I think it’s to entice people to eat and then leave so they get more customers served over the same amount of time. Not always my favorite experience though as it’s usually the very busy place or the very touristy ones.

naonintendois,

The issue with that is it leaves no room for paying the engineers who actually designed the device. The cost of designing the parts is really expensive. I have no issue with a small markup. I definitely agree though that the costs shouldn’t be so absurdly prohibitive to repair though.

naonintendois,

Sorry, I have cousins who will write things like that non sarcastically. We’ve gotten into such a sad state as a country.

naonintendois,

I literally thought that until I saw the community it was posted in lol.

Nice to see work being done towards deadlock safe mutexes (crates.io)

A saw this on Mastodon, and found it interesting. Rust already prevents a lot of race conditions, but deadlocks when using a mutex is still possible (and I have actually had one myself, though I caught it during testing). So, it would be nice if it would be possible to catch these cases at compile time. Now, seems to be just a...

naonintendois,

I don’t see how that can be used to make performant code though. I usually want to make my locked regions as small as possible to avoid how long other threads are blocked for.

naonintendois,

Reminds me of when the PS3 first went on sale and people sold pictures of a PS3 on eBay. The title said it was a picture, the content said it was a picture, but people were impatient, didn’t read and bought the auctions. I thought that was a bit manipulative then, but I would not feel bad if people did this to Trump supporters. IANAL but I don’t think it’s illegal as long as you don’t say you’ll do something and then not do it.

Use work laptop as personal device by dual booting on a separate internal drive?

I currently have a Dell laptop that runs Windows for work. I use an external SSD via the Thunderbolt port to boot Linux allowing me to use the laptop as a personal device on a completely separate drive. All I have to do is F12 at boot, then select boot from USB drive....

naonintendois,

I knew someone who did this but swapped out the physical hard drive each time. I wouldn’t dual boot because then it’s much more obvious to IT what you’ve done.

This is only realistically feasible though if the hard drive is easily accessible. If it’s something like a Mac or soldered in dual booting is your only choice. As others have said, this could get you in a lot of trouble with your company. Check the docs you’ve signed

naonintendois,

“Voluntarily” in the title makes it seem like it is not appetizing. I find dal delicious, and it’s not my native cuisine.

naonintendois,

I trolled myself by “learning” that I could delete all files in a directory, including hidden files, with rm -rf ./*. The mistake being that I (more than once…) accidentally put a space between the . and /.

naonintendois,

Rm was updated to actually log a warning in the -rf / cases, so that’s less likely to happen anymore. Still not a bad habit to use ls though

naonintendois,

I’m not sure why people are down voting you. My first thought is this is infective because the chain will only break into large pieces and might absorb a lot of the inner shrapnel / let the gases escape. I’d rather see these go through testing rather than just assuming it will work.

naonintendois,

It got it with the updated vaccine and it was extremely mild. A slightly worse cold but much better than the flu. I’m definitely keeping updated on vaccines.

naonintendois,

Are there any reviews on battery life under Linux?
