What ever this new cybernetic religion we are creating is it should for sure have an emphasis on the gospel of attenuation.

Is over/hypernormalization a pathological issue? has been my saving grace in this regard because as soon as you find yourself implementing attributes as attributes you know you have clearly gone too far. Same thing with “oh, these two things have sub items so let’s just make a generic children ref many for them!” - also a design flaw as a distinct attribute name gives texture to the soup!

Does anyone want to talk about the programming language/concurrency model? I refer to the work of Steven Ericsson Zenith: Process Interaction Models. He was a huge proponent of and essentially rejects the notion of channels here in favor of Contexts which behave in a similar manner for synchronization but allow for a non-destructive read. So something like a atom combined with a channel. Another cool thing is a context can be various data structures so a set or a bag or a list depending on use case (technically you can get this with via custom buffers but it takes some work). Anyway if anyone else digs this stuff I would love to chat.

Just saw “Barefoot Gen” for the first time. I honestly have no words beside abjectly beautiful.

Considering I am obsessed with vintage programming languages it is surprising that I have never tried a vintage development methodology like waterfall. I am legitimately going to attempt it for my next project. Vast diagrams and entity relation charts, sequence diagrams - the works! All before a single paren touches the buffer. I think I might even wear a white shirt and tie with a pocket protector to get into the zone.

This is hilarious. A engineer invented to make command line scripting easier with , because at a certain point scripts get too complicated and you need a Real Language.

This is exactly ’s use case from thirty-six years ago. But the kids want everywhere and would rather it take more work to convert their ascended scripts to a vastly different syntax.

@mjgardner @swaggboi Perl has all the appeal of cutting one’s toenails with oatmeal. Jokes aside I have lived in the Perl salt mines (consulted for a place that rhymes with wahoo) which is why I now gladly reside in the shelter of the parenthetical.

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_MUDs the last was God Wars II from 2002. Can this be right? Have we really stopped developing MUDs? I want to believe there are active MUDs out there that just don't want to be known or found? That said if you know of one can you let me in on it?
