'As useful as tits on a bull': Principal slams Govt's truancy plan, calls for cross-party action (www.newshub.co.nz)

"He’s blaming the boards and principals and schools for the problem we have, yet he’s the one that says, ‘Listen we are going to cut lunches’. How the hell is that going to get people into school? He says, ‘We are going to cut back the public transport subsidies’. How the hell is that going to get people into...

purrtastic,

I never thought I’d find a connection between food forests and Super Hans, but here we are. Just one question: what was the bad thing?

purrtastic,

Well, that’s pretty scathing, and justified too.

'Don't keep people home': Govt to give public health advice around sending sick children to school - Seymour (www.newshub.co.nz)

Why would you want sickness to spread at schools? This will get kids sick, it will get their teachers sick, kids will take it home to parents and get them sick. What’s the impact to education but also to the wider workforce and productivity?

purrtastic,

The wasps, aargh the wasps. That’s how I know it’s autumn. The fuckers are everywhere.

purrtastic,

Sometimes federation seems as wasteful as blockchain…

purrtastic,

I’ve heard that stremio + real debrid is a convenient setup these days, way easier than all the *arrs

purrtastic,

I used to do kombucha, water kefir, dairy kefir and sourdough. It does take time and I ended up buying water kefir and kombucha concentrate for the soda stream instead.

Top tip: never leave kombucha in a closed container and forget about it. After about 20 days the pressure built up so much that the glass container exploded, sending glass into a wall 15 metres away.

purrtastic,

And yet:

National/ ACT/ NZ First (55%) increase lead over Labour/ Greens/ Maori on 41% – now at 14% points

roymorgan.com/…/9483-nz-national-voting-intention…

I don’t understand the values of this country anymore

purrtastic,

The media? This is Verstappen’s direct quote when asked about Marko:

"My loyalty to him is very big, and also I have always expressed this to everyone within the team, everyone high up, that he is an important part in my decision making for all the time in the future as well within the team.

Spark now charging $6 a month for their email service that was previous free for customers (www.spark.co.nz)

This is so annoying. They are acting like they were doing such a good deed offering email for “free” to their customers. But all the customers never assumed it was free they saw it as an included service in their broadband plan.

purrtastic,

As part of my degoogling I ended up on Fastmail + 1Pass and my own domain which is the endpoint for masked emails. It works great and no online services get my actual email address.

We’re spending billions of dollars to make traffic worse (thespinoff.co.nz)

Building bigger roads won’t make driving nicer. It will make traffic worse. That may seem counterintuitive. It’s also one of the most studied assertions of the last few decades in transport planning. A report from the University of Berkeley shows that for every 1% of extra highway capacity added, traffic volumes increase...

purrtastic,

On current form there’s no way Max would join Mercedes. Part of this rumour is that Red Bull’s engine for 2026 is behind the competition, and Mercedes are in a better place.

purrtastic,

Yes. There’s simply so much speculation at the moment, nobody but Red Bull really know what’s going on. It’s providing a nice soap opera though.

purrtastic,

Sounds great. The books are some of my all time favourites but for some reason the first movie didn’t leave much of an impression. I’ll have to watch it again before seeing this.

purrtastic,

The massive front blind spots of these large cars are a major factor in increased pedestrian deaths.

purrtastic,

Pretty weak? There are many studies showing bigger cars are killing more pedestrians, particularly because of the front blind spot.

purrtastic,

Chonker. Maybe even a heckin’ chonker.
