❝ These multi-track tapes disappeared for many years, and were only rediscovered a few years ago. Old magnetic tapes tend to deteriorate, so Jowe had them carefully baked in a laboratory, which stabilised the coating on the tape surface so they could be copied and digitised. … Jowe completed the rest of the pieces last year, and now, after over 40 years, the resulting album can finally be enjoyed. ❞ → https://glassmodern.bandcamp.com/album/daga-daga-daga

it's difficult to read about the demise of Chuck’s Animatronic Band without getting teary-eyed … as you may or may not know, I was a member of this troupe for a short and sweet but undeniably awkward time

if you spent some of the 1990s in your 20s and you're connected enough to my network to read this post, then chances are you encountered an issue of the seminal magazine Mondo 2000. it may have even tweaked your life a little.

and that's why we're so excited to welcome the magazine's co-founder + former editor, R.U. Sirius, as our guest on the 200th episode of the Spotlight On podcast. 🎉

the conversation is a delightful jumble of thought-threads + ideas … listen in → https://www.spotlightonpodcast.com/ru-sirius-inside-the-mind-of-a-cyberdelic-shaman/

a few days ago I teased this 'forthcoming' episode of the @spotlightonpod podcast that I produced … it just went live + is indeed a special one

today we feature electronic musician, YouTube ‘personality,' and vintage gear guru HAINBACH

there's so much great stuff in this episode, and Hainbach really lets the knowledge fly as far as rare (and often Soviet) synth tech goes

the show notes I compiled are bananas, too 🔥

please check it out + let me know what you think! → https://www.spotlightonpodcast.com/hainbach-crafting-soundscapes-from-forgotten-relics/

❝ This AI music isn't really good enough yet that people are intentionally giving it share at scale. But just like the flood of AI content has made shopping Amazon harder, the flood of AI content will make discovering music harder, which hurts real artists. Above-average artists are already competing with many millions of average and below-average artists. Now, they're going to be competing with potentially billions of below-average and maybe even average AI artists. ❞ → https://links.ra.co/e/evib?_t=56db52daed1340ed9759912c44bef532&_m=3c8ed8cac5f0498c9961fa0222b483e3&_e=wEXK6nERGCuDe7AnBs-hJje1AlcT0inzSq5k41qOWKCit7n2bY2sCQLKMSay_YbnwbxIakXm6017LgoZ0kE4Lw%3D%3D

I’d be interested to hear how Neil Young is encountering podcasts on Qobuz
https://mastodon.social/@terjefjelde/112093864689804299

qburns,
@qburns@mas.to avatar

@ernie

I’m sure Young’s been getting lots of pressure from Warner Music over the last two years, thus his lame and grudgingly worded statement. otherwise it would have been great for him and the industry if he had gone Qobuz exclusive, as they are actually the one not only with the best audio quality but that don’t carry ‘the disinformation podcast’ (or any podcasts)

Has anyone used Wise.com (maybe it used to be called TransferWise) for sending money overseas? Would you recommend it? Thanks!

qburns,
@qburns@mas.to avatar

@stevenray

I use Wise often to transfer royalty money to the bank accounts of overseas artists I work with (I'm in music publishing), to save on wire transfer fees. For that purpose it's worked great for me — my bank's international wire transfer fee is like $40, and it's around $2 using Wise.

That's all I've done with it, though. I've never kept money in nor received money via a Wise account.

    has anyone heard if the major social media management apps are adding or have added Mastodon. I feel this has been a majornreason we haven't seen broader adoption in the corporate or government space.

    I thought the same thing, then a friend turned me on to the 11 AM matinée at the fancy local theater with the online seat reservations, etc … it's fun, not a lot of folks there, and the ones that are are all probably trying to escape the 'normal' theater crowd just like me. I still don't go often at all (not enough big movies thrill me), but it’s a nice option when something especially cinematic like, say, Dune 2 appears.

    qburns,
    @qburns@mas.to avatar

    @zoomar

    understood. though it's nice the matinée option is there it still takes a lot to draw me away from enjoying The Criterion Channel in the comfort of my lair.
