You hate WordPress because you think it's for noobs

I hate WordPress because its ecosystem is the localized manifestation of the abstract concept "security vulnerability."

We are not the same.

qgustavor,
@qgustavor@urusai.social avatar

@neatchee I use Wordpress for my blog. I also host it on a static server, so many of the vulnerability vectors aren't available. For the others, I'm really strict about the extensions I use. But, why? I like the editor and themes. I used Markdown before but I grew tired of its inflexibility in comparison with the WYSIWYG editor.

The only reason why I don't use KeePass XC: it lacks cloud synchronization and, having worked a lot developing applications that required to synchronise state between an offline client and a server, "just use your cloud service client to synchronize the database file" certainly doesn't fit the bill, that's a recipe for data loss.

Montividiu, Goiás, Brazil is a mapping challenge:
Google Maps has a lot of roads misnamed, like a bunch of R. das Avencas and two Av. Rio Verde.
Bing Maps is offline at this moment here.
@organicmaps's OpenStreetMap do not have any Rua das Avencas in that city (I hope contributors from that city fix that).
I had to look at MapQuest to find the address I was looking for... yet I am not 100% certain that's the correct address.

qgustavor,
@qgustavor@urusai.social avatar

@organicmaps Yeah, but I don't know what's the correct info on those roads, that's why I hope a contributor from this city fixes that. I often fix issues in my own city. :nekomatasmile:

qgustavor,
@qgustavor@urusai.social avatar

@organicmaps I tried fixing this issue and marked for review so at least someone can look at this. I even found an official document from a notary with the correct name, sadly I only found it after I sent the edit proposal.

This Vienna street isn’t “closed” because cars have been removed. It has successfully been “opened” to everything else, to a diverse and invigorated civic life, because cars have been replaced by a multitude of wonderful things.

Language matters.

@BrentToderian @dmoser Hard to explain that to store owners in a street in my city which have the exact same proposal. Many are complaining it will just drive customers away. :FacePalm:

GrubHub+ is officially pointless now.

The last 6 times I've gone to order delivery, ordering on GrubHub was more expensive than ordering from the restaurant directly, even after the discounts from GrubHub+.

Why? Because the same item is priced higher on GH. A burger meal that's $14.99 from Red Robin is $17.99 on GH. They're doing this consistently with every restaurant, likely to offset the cut that GH takes.

The centralized delivery service model has completely failed. It used to be worth the subscription. Now it's just a waste of money

I don't know who needs to hear this (that's a lie: ~80% of drivers) but when you're in a turn lane or an exit only lane, you should still signal to confirm to those around you that you are aware of the lane you're in and where it's about to go.

qgustavor,
@qgustavor@urusai.social avatar

@TechConnectify Is that a law or a custom? During driving school they said a lot that's optional (I still prefer signaling, of course).

What happens when every time your browser sends data to a tracker it makes a beep sound? Well, @bert_hubert did just that. And it sounds like you are listening to an old school modem. Creepy stuff! https://berthub.eu/articles/posts/tracker-beeper/

qgustavor,
@qgustavor@urusai.social avatar

@jwildeboer @bert_hubert That dates from 2022, the repository (https://github.com/berthubert/googerteller) seems dead, the methodology seems flawed (it beeps on connections to Google IPs, not exclusively tracking IPs, which can include people hosting websites on Google servers) and, as the project seems dead, I don't know if anyone checked it it really works as intended.

qgustavor,
@qgustavor@urusai.social avatar

@jwildeboer @bert_hubert I maintain OSS, that's not this simple. I tried to read the code, but it's like trying to read and review a text in Portuguese when you only know Spanish, you understand many words, but it's hard to find issues.

qgustavor,
@qgustavor@urusai.social avatar

@jwildeboer @bert_hubert That's why I said the project seems dead, if someone else could work at it (like adding support to other IP lists like Facebook's) those ideas would already be implemented at this time. Like, it has been two years, right? :HoloGrumble:

qgustavor,
@qgustavor@urusai.social avatar

@jwildeboer @bert_hubert Sorry if you saw that as a complaint, I just felt it strange. One thing I don't like is when people mistake wanting more privacy with an anti-Google group. A video like that should at least raise some concerns to anyone who ever coded anything network-related: IMHO it looks... sounds... badly implemented either on the detection side, or on the Google side, or the website or something in between. The frequency is just too high for network requests.

“Pro-Palestine” is still wrong. Opposition to genocide isn’t advocacy on behalf of any one specific group. It’s advocacy on behalf of all humanity.

“Dozens arrested at Yale and NYU as pro-human protests spread”

There we go. Fixed your headline.

qgustavor,
@qgustavor@urusai.social avatar

@tojikomori Living among some that are quite avid propaganda consumers, it's almost like they don't consider them as humans. Many see them as enemies trying to destroy Israel and steal their land, almost non-humans. Many consider themselves religious too.

I'm terrified that Google Maps routes my home to a lot of places though a prohibited and terribly unsafe turn, despite me asking Google Maps and Google One support to fix that many times, but @organicmaps doesn't. How the one with way more money on the table provides a worse service than the ads-free donation-based open-source alternative?!! :ChikaScared:

They accidentally left a translators note in the most recent volume of Classroom of the Elite. It's a literal translation and the interpretation of it.

I honestly wish I could get books with this type of "director's commentary" because it's very interesting to see how certain ideas are phrased in other languages.

qgustavor,
@qgustavor@urusai.social avatar

@neatchee I used to watch anime with translator comments being visible. It was interesting seeing comments from the translator to the rest of the staff explaining why they translated like that. It could vary from an expression being too difficult and they had to check a lot of sources to the translator being too confused that they checked a fan translation to get a solution to their problem.
