👋 Head moderator here - we hadn't announced because we are still watching to see if the spam behavior returns, but Mastodon Social isn't currently Limited / Moderated. (We waited a few days to ensure the spam situation was under control before announcing.)

Is this behavior you're still seeing? Or is it leftover from earlier in the week?

Vivaldi Day 2 and it's still keeping up with my tab, bookmarking, and so on needs. Nice. :blobfoxheartcute:

Who here has typo'ed browser as bowser? (Mario)

Ok I finally got mentally past the fact that you need to create an account for Arc (rather than local profiles).

This browser is nice, I'll give it that. Damn.

As a separate post: what's your favorite tab manager? I've been using Raindrop or Toby. Happy to hear from the tooling enthusiasts what the current favorites are 👀

quintessence,
@quintessence@hachyderm.io avatar

@est

Tab managers help you handle the browser tabs that you need to have open repeatedly. Toby (their site is GetToby) for example, lets you open a bunch of tabs if you find yourself opening the same tabs in certain contexts. (Always opening the same tabs when you start work, or doing research, playing games, etc.) Tab managers are basically like bookmarks, and then some.

@est You're welcome!

Well how about that, "truly epic tab management" right there on the home page :blobfoxheartcute:

@drsbaitso

I had been using :brave: for quite a while, how does it hold up with ads and script blocking etc.?

same, same

I have made such a habit of Close All Tabs Friday that when I miss a week it's pretty obvious.

Closing or bookmarking / storing all tabs weekly has really helped my "tab hygiene". Because research tab explosions are real. :blobfoxheartcute:

Who else is enjoying young Leia being an absolute BADASS this ?

(Minor spoiler: the Obi Wan series, if you haven't seen it yet, heavily features young Leia. Being a badass, as mentioned. You should watch it. You should definitely watch it.)

The notion that federated social media depends existentially on scalable moderation is obviously getting momentum. Here are two efforts I've run across that are focusing on this. One is a non-profit, the other smells like a startup company:

  1. https://about.iftas.org
  2. https://www.lassomoderation.com

Screen grab from Lasso: "Content Moderation tooling out of the box"

So in the wake of the @nova resignation and drama, it seems to come down to the fundraising rule.

This rule seems to be born out of a fear of “begging” spam.

In theory, I can see how this could become a problem.

But, @nivenly / @hachyderm (hachyderm admins), is it really a justifiable fear?

Has it happened before?
How bad would it even be? Is the local timeline really that valuable (I don’t use it)?
Do you not see how super gentrified it looks to oust the beggars?

👋 Hello, head moderator here! Change requests, clarifications, etc. happen on GitHub, which is probably why you're not seeing what you're looking for. Here is the GitHub Issue that is discussing it:

Gotcha! Internally we have always drawn a distinction between mutual aid and bots/spam which we see a lot of. We needed a rule in place to help us manage the spam, so we decided to publish a rule and we called it "fundraising". We realize now this was a mistake and our language wasn't as clear as it could be at the expense of those most in need. So we have changes going live next week to clarify the distinction between mutual aid and bot/spam.

I took care of mantis shrimps in saltwater aquariums for like 8 years :D :D They're really, really cool creatures.

A closer view, she is the size of a pea.

Question for automating software installations for Macs? Use case is decidedly non-corporate, basically for home dev use. Basically after you wipe to eliminate cruft / return to a clean slate, do you use scripts / brew to reinstall all your tools and manually re-install anything in the App Store? Or do y'all do something different?

Call for info - primarily for BlackMastodon, but also for anyone in a historically underrepresented group who finds themselves frequently needing to educate those in overrepresented groups. On behalf of the Hachyderm mods: we see you, we want to help. Proposal:

  • What: Curated, attributed list of work including people to follow, hashtags, and other resources
  • Location: our user documentation
  • Goal: create a resource for people to see / reference, rather than have the same conversation 50x.
