I now have the use of a vinyl cutter. I've little to no knowledge of the possibilities of things I could do with it.

Anyone else got a vinyl cutter? What do you use it for ?

That was a good day in the workshop. Got instructions on 3 new machines. Which dramatically increases the things I can make. Because of the time spent under instruction, I didn't get much done on any one project.

Might not be able to get to the workshop today as there is a protest nearby... Let's see what happens.

Heavy police presence is just what you need when you've a backpack full of tools.

And if you're interested how to fix the problems with EU-wide rail ticketing, I published a report about it for Jakop Dalunde MEP this week - PDF here https://jakopdalunde.se/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/MDMS-Report-FINAL-WEB-reducedsize.pdf

And a shorter sort of summary is on my blog here https://jonworth.eu/how-to-actually-build-europe-wide-multimodal-public-transport-booking-platforms/

quixoticgeek,

@jon I still disagree. I don't want to book a train ticket. I want to buy a train ticket. I don't want to be stuck on a single train on a single day as the only option that ticket allows to do. I think comparing to the airline industry is dangerous. Public transport has to be operated with the primary goal of transporting the public. The paradigm of booking a ticket is in direct opposition to that.

Every now and then I get out this collection of crystals and minerals that I got when I was like 7 on a family holiday where we visited a cave system somewhere in the south of France. It has such a distinct and unique scent inside. In a different timeline I could've become a geologist.

(Also included are my mum's attempts at translating the names. Not a bad job, given this was before the Internet, though I was delighted to find that "sulphur" was actually brimstone when I checked just now!)

@kapellosaur I'm sorry, did you expect anything less ?

Having a very slow morning. Still haven't decided what I want to work on at the workshop today.

I think I need a new laptop. What's a good model?

I'll install debian on it. UK keyboard (so no apple). ~14 in screen. I'd prefer smaller & compacter, to powerful. But shouldn't be too slow. Relatively high budget.

@amapanda i am very happy with my Lenovo X1 carbon

"my computer isn't working properly"
"Have you tried turning it off?"
"And back in again?"
"No".
